Fave layouts of 2007

I was just over on the message boards at SIStv and Bernadette had shown which ones were her faves that she had done this year and also explained why. I thought this was a fab idea as it will be neat to look back on and it kind of sums up the year sometimes as well. 2007 is almost over and 2008 is upon us and I'm hoping that there will be everything great in 2008 (as my ma says!). So here are my faves that I have done this year:

This is one of my earlier ones in 2007 and I love it because I made it while in a contest where we had to do a layout using NO PATTERNED PAPER!!! I remember being so nervous thinking "how can you do that?? how will it look?" but in the end I thought it rocked the kazba! I now have no fear doing a layout with no patterned paper. Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't want to make a habit of it as I'm a patterned paper addict, but it can be done! I didn't win the contest but I came away with some kickass layouts!

This one I just love because it's a summary of what is good in my life. I love doing layouts like this about just the normal everyday stuff and I liked how the colors and goodies on this scream fun!

This is another of my faves, I can't remember if it was for a dare or a challenge but you had to scrap your weakness and this is so mine! I loved the green letters and the idea of kryptonite just came to me. Love this!

This was another product of a contest I was in. We had to do a layout using the number 7 in the title and it had to be about being lucky or blessed. I loved the happy colors on here and the splashes of orange as well as using multiple pics of what I am thankful for.

What I love about this layout is the simplicity of it, which for me is rare as I like to pile on the goodies! This Basic Grey paper didn't require much and I love the pics of my friend and I.

This was another gem from a contest (did I mention I love a good contest??) haha In this one we had to do a layout using NO STORE BOUGHT EMBELLIES!! The layout had to only have home made embellies. Again, I was a little worried but in the end was so happy with the outcome. I made my own negative strip out of cardstock and loved the sun made with ribbons and buttons. This layout just makes me smile when I look at it.

This one just makes me smile and takes me on a trip down memory lane. How young we were, just babies really! This is my hubs and I, I would have been 18 and he was
19. I love the colors here, the arrow and the title. This is one of my all time faves.

I love the neutral colors on here, the stamping and the pics of everyone. I recapped what everyone had been up to during 2007 as well so it would be neat to look back on.

This was my first, and I think only, layout done using NO PICTURES!! It was for a dare or a challenge and I ended up loving it!! It was just random things about me and I loved the whole concept and design of it. Being challenged always brings out the best in me because it makes me think way outside the box and outside my comfort level.

This was my entry in the Last Scrapper Standing contest and it wasn't picked to go on but in my opinion it rocks the kazba and is one of my faves! We had to use like 8transparencies and once again I loved the challenge! I used one piece of Basic Grey Recess paper and pimped it up with all the transparancies and loved the result.

This was my first mini book and after this I was hooked! I used the Magistical Memories Mix It Up book and entered it in for a Guest Design team spot at Magistical Memories and ended up being offered a DT spot for November and December 2007! I loved playing with this book and found it opened up a whole new world for me.

The colors here are amazing and I love the tape measure ribbon (I use it alot!!). There is just something so cozy and warm about this layout, it's one of my faves.I used my creative DT kit from Scrapper's Haven to make this one.

This was my take on the One Little Word challenge and I fell in love with that blog too!! I can now hardly wait to see the new words. I love the Basic Grey paper on here and how I added the lace and other goodies on it for such an urban grunge look.

I love the neutral colors here again with the splashes of orange and how I captured this photos without my daughter knowing. Just looking at it is like a secret glimpse into her world and I always wonder what she is thinking about. I used the awesome Imaginisce rub ons from Scrapper's Haven for this and they went on like buttah!

This was my first time using index prints for a layout and I LOVED IT!!! I love how this showcases alot of my layouts and sums up for me why I scrap. This one just makes me happy looking at it! ha ha I used my creative DT kit from Scrapper's Haven to make this fun layout.

Another mini book and this time in the shape of a word, Love. This book was so much fun to make, I did it on the story of how the hubs and I met and where we are today. I love the colors, the ribbons, the flowers, everything about this book. I used the new BoBunny chipboard book and my creative kit from Scrapper's Haven.

Well, this was so much fun going through my fave layouts of 2007. The funniest thing is that none of the faves that I picked were ever pubbed or picked up for publication and the ones that were pubbed or have been requested weren't listed as my faves! What does that mean?? haha I guess it goes to show that beauty really is in the eye of the beholder. That or I just don't know what makes a good pub! ha ha

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas! I am so happy to be enjoying my time off from work and am hoping to get in some scrappy time soon so I can play with some of my new toys! haha I bought the Making Memories paper cutter with the 50% coupon from Michael's and will use it today. I'm sure anything is better than the Fiskars piece of crap I had that always cut crooked. The Making Memories one has self sharpening blades, how cool is that?? I am waiting for an order of scrappy stuff from 2 peas that has a whack of fun stuff in it, like the 7 Gypsies gaffer tapes, which I am totally hooked on!! When I get it I'll take a pic and post it in all it's glory! Here's a layout I did over the holidays using that awesome gaffer tape:

I'm such a slacker...

not doing too good on keeping up on this whole blog thing! haha I have been busy finishing up some DT work for Magistical Memories as this is my last month on the team (wah!) and I am so kicking my a$$ for not reapplying. The way I looked at it was I wanted to be able to totally give 100% and with being on 2 DT's already I really wasn't sure I was able to do that and also maintain my sense of duty and integrity. Belonging to a DT entails being on the message boards, doing the projects, challenges, articles, blogs etc.. depending on which one you belong to. I think I did the right thing because I do have to work full time (uuuggh!) and I don't ever want to have to feel like my fun is work, you know? I will totally apply the next time they have an opening though if I feel I can handle it as their chipboard (and what they send you to play with!!!) rocks the kazba!!! With that said, here is the awesome Magistical Memories Scallop Lace chipboard mini book that I had soooo much fun playing with:

Puter Problems...

What a week! First off I had computer issues and because I'm no techie I'm afraid I probably brought this on myself. My computer wouldn't start up becuase it said Windows was corrupt and I needed to re-install windows. Well, apparantly when you do that you wipe most of the stuff off your computer and totally, I mean totally, get rid of ALL your emails, ALL your contacts, ALL your important stuff!! I could have cried. So if I haven't emailed anyone I should be it's because I don't have my email database anymore! aaaahhhhh (*&&^&*^$%(^#*_#() Ok. I'll be fine. I will have to try and build it up again but I shudder to think of all the stuff I lost. I must have had over 700 emails, alot were important like contracts, orders, ebay stuff, etc... I really should have talked to a techie person first I think before barging ahead and saying "yeah, system restore, put that windows back in" because what if I could have prevented this fresh hell??? But alas, what is done is done and I'm surprisingly calm about it.

Maybe because it's Christmas and the hubs and I put the tree up today!! woohoo!! The lights are twinkling, it's awesome. I have to do some baking this week and clean the house but I'm so ready for Christmas! Here is our tree:

Here are the boys
wearing their Christmas best,
they are ready too!

Boy did I have fun playing with these "crazy for gears" from Magistical Memories! As soon as I saw them I was reminded of that song from friends, you know the one where "It's like you're always stuck in 2nd year, when it hasn't been your day, your week, your month, or even your year...." and it got me thinking that I am way too wound up and get way too excited about things. So I created this layout on how I really need to learn how to relax more.

Word Up!

The new word from the One Little Word challenge blog is "live". I love these challenges. I knew right away I wanted to do a layout on a bunch of pics I had of me and my best friend so I found a quote about friendship that had the word "live" in it and voila!

I'm off to do some running around and one of the stops I have to make is down to my local scrappy store as they want to take my picture to put on their scrappy wall of fame!! woohoo! They carry the Canadian Scrapbooker magazine so they want a pic of me holding the magazine open to one of my layouts, how exciting!

Canadian Scrapbooker....

emailed me this morning and they want 2 of my layouts for the March 2008 issue!!! Yippee!! I was so excited, it really just made my day! It was funny because when I went to the Post Office today I got my other 3 layouts back from them that are in this months issue along with 2 free magazines! I was so amazing to see my stuff in print, I don't think I could ever get sick of that feeling. Or could I? It got me wondering, when some people are pubbed over and over, do they lose that "special feeling" they get with their first few or does it give them warm fuzzies each time? I for one hope I never lose that sense of excitement, that pumped feeling. I want it to always grab me and shake me because it's a great feeling! After I got the email I thought to myself "well at least Donna doesn't think I'm a scrappy stalker!" ha ha

On another note, Word up! The new One Little Word challenge has been posted and the word is "Live". I am going to work on that this weekend. Also, good news, I found the new Ali Edwards Life Artist book and ordered it, I can hardly wait to get it! Of course I ended up ordering a few more things while I was at it like THAT NEW 7 GYPSIES ATC CARD HOLDER!!!! wwahhhhhh!! I know! I just had to have that baby! I've never even made a bloody ATC card before either! Isn't that funny? That thing is just so cute and I've been seeing other people do amazing things with it so I thought it would made a fab coffee table piece. Well, the hubs is making supper (which is rare!!) so I'm off to enjoy. Later dudes!

Magistical Memories Keys To My Heart Book

Ok, I am like totally hooked on making mini books! It all started with the Magistical Memories Mix It Up book and carried on from there. So I was so happy when in their whack of DT goodies I found this cute little heart book, isn't it cute?? At first the shape threw me for a right loop, but as I worked on it it came together ok.

My First Time Pubbed!!

I was at my local scrappy store on Saturday and when I walked in Elaine said to me "the magazine is here and you're in it!" and I was so pumped!! I quickly grabbed it and looked in it and found my 3 layouts (yes, 3!!!) It's the December 1 issue of Canadian Scrapbooker and I am so thrilled! I can't tell you how exciting it is to actually see your work in print. Amazing!! I am waiting for my layouts and free copy of the magazine to be sent back to me as they mailed it today. I can hardly wait to get my own copy!!

On a funnier note, I sent another layout to Canadian Scrapbooker on the weekend (like I always do) and got this response from Donna (I feel like I can be on a first name basis now with her as I bombard her so much):

"Thanks Glenda for your submission. I feel like I'm getting to know you.
Neat. Donna"

Which got me to thinking, does she think I'm a scrappy stalker?? I hope not but if I get a restraining order then I'll worry! ha ha

Friday, November 23, 2007

I just love Fridays! To me it's the end of a work week and the start of sleeping in, relaxing, having fun, scrapping, doing whatever & family time. I finished my first DT layout for Magistical Memories and had alot of fun working with their chipboard (which is totally awesome!!) and being challenged using the chipboard. In this layout I used their chipboard nesting circles and painted them with acrylic paint and then journaled around them. I also killed 2 birds with 1 stone because I did the layout for the Global Perspectives challenge which was to scrap your background, and this is mine.

On a totally different note, I have been dying to get my hands on the new Ali Edwards Life Artist book but now says it's no longer available. Not that it's out of stock, or will be in soon, but that's it's no longer available!! Grrr....I know I could probably hunt for it in the states but the shipping is such a killer. So...if anyone know where it can be found in Canada for a reasonable price and reasonable shipping, please let me know! That's why I liked the is because they gave you free shipping if you ordered $39 worth of books!

Got my goodies!

Yesterday I got an envelope stuffed with Magistical Memories chipboard for my DT work for this month and next. Now I have to really pump the jam and get to making some stuff and having fun with their amazing chipboard! I felt like a kid at Christmas, love getting happy mail like that. I started last night on a chipboard mini book and am having alot of fun with it. It's a heart shaped book which is a very different shape for me to work with but I'm having fun being challenged by it.

Just saw this morning the new Global Perspectives challenge is up, I can hardly wait to play along with that one as well. Here is the link to check it out, I just love the song that plays on their home page!!

Friday at last!!

Woo hoo!! Finally Friday is here. I had so much fun doing my One Little Word layout, I am totally hooked now and can hardly wait to see what the next word is going to be!! Anyhoo, here is my take on the word "Full":

It's also crop night, which is the 3rd Friday of every month, at Scrapper's Haven so I'm having fun sipping on a cold one and doing some scrapping. My challenge for the night was to use acrylic paint on your layout, however which way you want and this was mine. Apparently some people didn't think my scrappy area was messy enough but when I'm looking for stuff and can't find it under piles of other stuff, it seems messy!! ha ha

One Little Word

I stumbled across this cool site last night and was instantly hooked on the whole concept, not to mention the endless possibilities! It got my creative juices a flowing and I am almost done my first challenge. How this works is they post a word and you have to use that word in your layout. Not only did this inspire me to think outside of the box for title work (we all know titles tend to get boring!) but I also loved seeing everyone's interpretation of this little word!! I am pretty pumped and am almost finished my page. I'll come back to post it when I'm done and here is the link in case anyone else wants to play along:

New Design Team Project

This was a plain chipboard box before I pimped it up and had alot of fun using the new Rusty Pickle Pirate papers (say that quickly 10 times!) from Scrapper's Haven. The box was part of my prize from OPAAT and here is it before it was pimped:

And here is the box after I had fun playing with it!:

Sunday, November 11, 2007

Just checked in to see what was happening at the Miss Scraptastic contest and was not surprised that I didn't make it to the final round (have I ever told you how much I hate making cards???) I know card makers around the world would shudder and I'm sorry but it's really not my forte! It's more like my kryptonite! hee hee Anyhoo, I was happy to have gotten some wicked layouts from the contest, the girlies there are always fun and I love being challenged. So it's a win-win for me! I can't tell you how fun those girls are and how friendly. You know how some places you can just feel the competition thick in the air, like pollution? Not there, everyone is quick to praise and seems genuinenly happy to see you pump out a great layout. To me, that's what it's all about. Having fun with others that love the craft as much as you. Well, I'm off to bed, cleaned the house all day with the hubs, made a wicked roast beef dinner with all the trimmings but forgot the yorkshire pudding in the oven!! Can you believe it?? I found them when I went to clean up the kitchen tonight!! ggrrrr.....

The wicked cool prize I won

I have to share this wicked cool prize I won from OPAAT for one of my layouts. This is the layout:

You had to do a layout using all "old skool" products and the prize was a package of over $300 worth of old skool products. I almost had a stroke when I got the email from Capella that I had won this amazing prize!! When I got the box from the post office it was sooo heavy. I lugged it into work as I told Amy, my co-worker and fellow scrap addict, that when I got it I would bring it in, and almost went into a full siezure going through all the goodies!! I can't tell you how I felt, it was the biggest prize I've ever won and just thinking about it even now makes me feel drunk on scrappy goodness!!! I spread the goodies all out on my floor and took a pic but it doesn't do it justice. There were over 100 sheets of patterned paper in the prize package but I just have them in 2 stacks here in the pic. There were also rub ons, chipboard albums, a 12 x 12 album, a 8 x 8 album, a Basic Grey lunchbox kit, a Basic Grey die notch tool thingy, 7 (yes, 7!!!) Technique Tuesday stamp sets, chipboard, stickers, brads, flowers, embellies, and lots of other goodies. It was truly amazing!!!

It's the long weekend!

And I am so happy it's finally here! I got some major scrapping done last night which was good as I have quite a few projects that I need to either finish or get started on! Here are 2 layouts I worked on and I was quite happy about them. I love this one of my best friend Gay and I on the day that we drove to Regina for a shopping/lunch excursion! Man, when we went into Winner's I almost had a full blown siezure, the stuff was amazing!! Got some Christmas presents that I have tucked away and some cool scrappy stuff at Winners and Michaels. Then we had lunch at our fave place ever, Red Lobster!! It was sooo good. It was such a great day, I'm looking forward to our next one!

This next layout was for Skippy, one of my fur babies. Isn't he the cutest?? I wanted to pick fun and colorful papers and embellies to match his sunny personality so I was happy with how this turned out. These papers wouldn't have matched my other fur baby's personality as he's too crotchety! ha ha

My attempt at a card with matching envelope

Ok, this round of the Miss Scrap-Tastic contest has me minus a shoe, 3 ripped fingernails, split ends and frayed nerves! Here is my entry for the round 6 make a card with matching envelope. I am worried about making it to the next round now because card making is just not my forte! Now if they would have had us do a layout, that's where I would have been more comfortable. But, that's what pushing your creative boundaries is all about right?

Another dare from the Dare book

I'm making my way in the world today through the awesome Dare book, otherwise known as "We Dare You". This book is the bomb, it will totally change the way you scrap and what you scrap about, I highly recommend it! (and not I'm not getting paid to promote it!) haha

That being said, this is my take on the "Favorites" dare, which is the 4th one in the book. It was to scrap about something that is your favorite so I chose my fave band which is of course the Goo Goo Dolls. John R's voice is just amazing, the music just touches something within me and I could listen to them over and over.

I get how this works and how to do this blog thing! I am so proud of myself! ha ha I know it will be a work in progress and it's probably just me reading this thing anyways but never the less, I'm happy to have mastered it!

I'm in this contest over at Scrap-Tastic and have made it into Round 6 but this next challenge was a killer, it was to make a card and co-ordinating envelope! If anyone knows me they know I am so not a card maker!! But, I think I rose to the challenge and even made my own envelope using a "hatbox" technique from the internet, cool eh? I am going to take a pic of it tomorrow so I can post it to the contest and then I'll post it on here. Here's keeping my fingers crossed!

The little book of Me

This is a book I did using the Magistical Memories mix it up chipboard book!! I love this book!!! And how cool is it that I'm on the Design Team for November and December and get to play with their goodies! Because I had soooo much fun doing this book on me I also did one for my daughter as well! This is hers and you can see all of the pages to both of them on "my stuff":
