Time to roll in the gutter kids!

This challenge is a goody, I really loved it. Here's a chance to get down and dirty, check out the new Gutter Girlz challenge and play along. And remember you can get as down and dirty as you like, the interpretation is totally up to you. That's the beauty of the gutter!! Here's mine

I was glad I finally got to use that Rusty Pickle camo paper I got. Don't you just love it when you finally use some old stash or paper that at the time you just had to have, only to have it sit there for ages?? I'm so bad. Like yesterday I was at my LSS just because I hadn't been there since before holidays and of course what did I bring home? MORE PAPER!!! I even told the woman working there it's downright gluttony now and I'm starting to feel shame! haha But do I stop? Noooooo....I think there's a word for that right? Can we say addiction kids??

I added to my art journal as I got a chance to play along with the Creative Therapy this week, yay! Here's my journal page

I loved how it turned out with the bird theme. It totally fits with how I feel when I'm in my art room. Sigh. Love.

Last night John and I watched a couple movies

Both were good but Eagle Eye was the best!! It was a hang on to the edge of your seat ride, plus I just love Shia LaBeouf!! Oh to be 20 years younger!! haha

Yesterday went for a chinese food lunch with my best bud, it was so nice catching up on everythat since I was away on holidays. I gave her a bauble that I brought back for her but forgot to snap a pic of it before I gave it to her. Today is housework day and then Monday will be coming all too fast. Monday I will find myself back in my cubicle, uuggghh....I really have to enjoy today and tomorrow.

Happy Hump Day!

Ok, I'm sitting here in my scrap room when I should be cleaning the house but really, what would you rather do??? I am on my 3rd load of laundry so I think that still counts. he he I made an art journal page before I went away on holidays and forgot to post it

I guess that pretty much sums up what I just said eh? haha Also, finished my page last night for the A year in the life of an art journal, the word this time being "decide". I really look forward to those prompts and each time they seem to come at a time when I know exactly how I'm going to use the word.

My scrap room is still a mess with all my goodies laying on the floor. Today in between house work I'm going to try to get them all put away and get organized. Oh, here are a few books I bought while on my vacay. they are all awesome, full of amazing eye candy and wonderful techniques!!

Oh, and don't forget to check out the amazing new releases over at Magistical Memories!! I had my package of new chippies waiting for me when I got home and am starting a layout. Talk about yummy stuff!!!

When I was on holidays I checked my email and got one from Canadian Scrapbooker requesting 2 of my layouts that I sent away yesterday. That was a wonderful surprise. I also was asked to guest somewhere but I don't think I can say yet...More to come on that soon. I'm going to hop over to the One Little Word blog and see what the word up is and make some time to play. I missed playing!!!!

I'm back!!

I got back yesterday and have been sifting through emails, mail, flyers, etc.. and still have lots of catching up to do. I need to get back onto my message boards, check in with my peeps and visit blogs! Until I get totally organized, which could take a few days, I thought I would post some pics of my vacay and art goodies!!! aaaaiiiieeeee! Ok, here is me on the plane going to Ma and Pa's:

and this is Ma and Pa with a whack of Michaels 40% off coupons! Let the fun begin!!!

He got a bunch of flyers saved for us and I went totally to town, as I'll show here

It was awesome. I just kept going back every day using a couple coupons at a time and stocked up on some of the more expensive supplies like watercolor crayons (I can hardly wait to use these!!!), UTEE (again, never used this but am pumped to try it!), a brayer, pigment powders, etc...

and then I also stocked up on stamps, big time (alot of these were from a little stamp store I came across)....

and of course I wouldn't be me if I didn't bring back a new bag (I know, like I need another bag right???) hahaha But when I saw this baby I couldn't resist, she had to come home with me

Here are a couple pics of me in the big city, I actually drove a couple days as well!

and here is me and Ma downtown

I had such a great time. It's always nice to get away and just be pampered by your parents, relax and not have to be "on". I think it gives you a greater appreciation for your family when you return and they for you. I am dying to create but have errands to do today, maybe tonight. Last night we ordered in chinese food and watched a movie. It's good to be home.

Just poppin in to say hi!

Yeppers, still on the vacay! I'm just sitting here at Ma and Pa's, checking my emails and a few sites and saw that Gauche Alchemy had posted the last of my projects from me guesting there this month. So, I thought I would pop in and do my due diligence and post them. These were a couple of my favorite projects from the kit

and I made this mini using their add-on kit

Man I had alot of fun with this book. It was fun playing with all the ephemera and just doing a book on ramblings. I'm wierd like that! haha

Tonight we are just going to kick back, watch a couple movies and then tomorrow night my aunt is having a soiree. They always have good ordervees and the drinks flow. Yummo. Time is going fast and it won't be long until I'm back home again! I do miss my art room....later dudes!

Still on the vacay!

And having fun, relaxing, shopping, eating, drinking beer, enjoying the time with Ma and Pa. Today I am on my own in the big city. How exciting is that eh? I have their car so I am going to drive over to this little scrappy place that always has some unique items and last summer they had a sale wall that had me foaming at the mouth!! haha After that I might drive out to a little strip mall or the bigger strip mall where they have a Winners and a Michaels there. Yesterday we were there and I bought a new Kathy bag (what else is new right??) I can hardly wait to post some pics when I get home. Bought some new art supplies in Michaels but I was really disappointed because the shelves were so picked clean out of all the good stuff that it looked like a swarm of locusts had gone through there! Locusts that love Timmeeeeee!! There were no Tim Holtz products to be seen. Lucky I got some new alcohol inks at the other scrap store.

Anyways, before I run out for the day I had almost forgotten to post my new challenge layout for The Design Experiment. Here it is and make sure you pop on over and check it out and play along!

Also, here is an art journal page I made using the fabulous Gauche Alchemy February Geekery Kit.

Man how I love to art journal. I will admit I am having a teensy bit of withdrawal while I've been away. Just think, when I get back home I'll be like a whirling dervish in my scrap room, the paint will be flying everywhere, supplies everwhere!! haha

This is me, coming to you from on vacation!

yo yo yo! I'm on day 3 of my vacation and having a great time! Last night we had a big soiree with a bunch of family, drinks and a huge turkey feast! It was so nice to have a big get together and see everyone again.

Today we went to a flea market where I found some good deals on old books, sheet music and some gorgeous baubles (I'll have to post pics when I get back home!)

All I really have time for right now is to post the new challenges (cause I know you're dying to know right?) haha Here is my layout for the new Gutter Girlz challenge, which is totally kick ass!

Then this is my new Dream Girls challenge which you won't want to miss if you are anything like me and have accumulated an astronomical amount of American Crafts products!!!

Here is another guest design layout I did using the super fun
Gauche Alchemy February kit. They have really given me a warm welcome over at their blog, love those girls!!!

Major challenges and stuff all posted today! haha Well, I'm going to go back and read my book and chill. We are having a low key day today after the soiree last night! haha Later dudes!

I'm leaving, on a jet plane

Seriously! I fly out tomorrow morning to visit my parents and I'm really excited to go see them. I'm taking my Grama along and am all packed and ready to go. The family is staying behind to keep the home fires burning and I'll miss them but I know they'll be fine without me (think lots of takeout, no nagging!) haha

I made this ATC card for my 7 Gypsies spinner with my departure in mind (the awesome background was from a "backgrounds swap" on swap-bot that someone sent me and it went beautifully with this 7 Gypsies transparancy. Thank you to whoever sent it to me!

and this one just cause I was feeling saucy! haha

I can't believe I'm going to be away from my art room for 9 days!! eeek! I can myself going into major withdrawal for sure! I'll take lots of pics though and enjoy my time with ma and pa! Before I leave you here is something that I think anyone that is in my age bracket will appreciate, I know I did!!

THE SPOILED UNDER-40 CROWD!!!

If you are 40 or older you will think this is hilarious!!!!

When I was a kid, adults used to bore me to tears
with their tedious diatribes about how hard things were. When they were growing up; what with walking Twenty-five miles to school every morning

Uphill... barefoot...

BOTH ways

Yadda, yadda, yadda

And I remember promising myself that when I grew up,
there was no way in hell I was going to lay
a bunch of crap like that on kids about how hard I had it
and how easy they've got it!

But now that... I'm over the ripe old age of
forty, I can't help but look around and notice the youth of today.

You've got it so easy! I mean, compared to my
childhood, you live in a damn Utopia!

And I hate to say it but you kids today you
don't know how good you've got it!

I mean, when I was a kid we didn't have The Internet. If we wanted to know something, We had to go to the damn library and
look it up ourselves, in the card catalogue!!

There was no email!! We had to actually write
somebody a letter, with a pen!

Then you had to walk all the way across the street and put it in the mailbox and it would take like a week to get there! Stamps were 10 cents!

Child Protective Services didn't care if our parents beat us. As a matter of fact, the parents of all my friends also had permission to kick our ass! No where was safe!

There were no MP3' s or Napsters! You wanted to
steal music, you had to hitchhike to the damn record store and shoplift it yourself!

Or you had to wait around all day to tape it off the radio and the DJ'd usually talk over the beginning and @#*% it all up!

There were no CD players! We had tape decks in our car. We'd play our favorite tape and "eject" it when finished and the tape would come undone…cause that's how we rolled dig?

We didn't have fancy crap like Call Waiting! If you
were on the phone and somebody else called they got a busy signal, that's it!

And we didn't have fancy Caller ID either!
When the phone rang, you had no idea who it was! It could be your school,
your mom, your boss, your Bookie, your drug dealer, a collections agent, you
just didn't know!!! You had to pick it up and take your chances, mister!

We didn't have any fancy Sony Playstation video
games with high-resolution 3-D graphics! We had the Atari 2600! With games
like 'Space Invaders' and 'asteroids'. Your guy was a little square! You
actually had to use your imagination!! And there were no multiple levels or
screens, it was just one screen
forever!

And you could never win. The game just kept getting
harder and harder and faster and faster until you died! Just like LIFE!

You had to use a little book called a TV Guide to find out what was
on! You were screwed when it came to channel surfing! You had to get off
your ass and walk over to the TV to change the channel! There was no
Cartoon Network either! You could only get cartoons
on Saturday Morning. Do you hear what I'm saying!?! We had to wait ALL WEEK
for cartoons, you spoiled
little rat-bastards!

And we didn't have microwaves, if we wanted to heat
something up we had to use the stove ... Imagine that!

That's exactly what I'm talking about! You kids
today have got it too easy.
You're spoiled. You guys wouldn't have lasted
five minutes back in 1980 or before!

Regards,
The over 40 Crowd

Isn't that freakin hilarious, and oh so true??? We didn't own a microwave until I was like 13!!! And on Saturday mornings my sister and I would grab our bowls of cereal and hunker down in front of the TV for Scooby Do and Josie and the Pussycats and Bugs Bunny & Roadrunner. We didn't have this Teletoon that runs 24/7!! Wow, this just really made me think. What do you remember from those days?

Take care everyone and I'll maybe post with some pics when I'm away! I'll be updating my blog for the upcoming challenges while I'm away as well so stay tuned as I'll have new layouts and challenge info for the Gutter Girlz, Dream Girls and The Design Experiment! woohoo!

Let's do the time warp again!

My computer clock is off and nothing I do will keep the time correct. When I googled it it said something about a chip I would have to get that goes inside the box thing, can't remember what it's called. Nothing serious I don't think but it's soooo annoying. Like right now it says it's 7:17 pm as I type, but it's not, it's 9:17!! It's always 2 hours slow. It used to be just an hour but now it's 2. Geez, in no time I'll be losing 5 hours and more and then it will look like I'm posting at all hours of the day and night! haha Anyhoo, Magistical Memories is having a February "Spice is nice" contest and they always have yummy chipboard to give away! Make sure you pop on over and check it out! Here is my take on the contest (I can't win but we can play along...which is still super fun)

I finally got to play along with the Scrapping the Music challenge and made this

I had never heard that song before but it was so beautiful. I knew immediately that I wanted to do a layout on my kids and journal some words of wisdom to them, some tidbits that I think are important.

I think because I know I'm going away on holidays this Friday and will be away from my scrap room I'm going into pre-withdrawal! I've sat in my room while John has been sleeping and have been madly whipping up ATC cards for my 7 Gypsies spinner, which I have sorely neglected!! It was nice to add these babies to it and spin that baby round

I tell you, this 7 Gypsies card notcher I bought in the summer is the cat's ass!! Looovveeee it! You can make a spinner card out of anything! That card with the lady and garbage can hat was actually the front of a greeting card someone sent me!

My newest thing is I'm dying to make some jewellery, pendants to be exact. If any of you know where you can buy the pendants cheap (in Canada preferably but if not tell me where anyways) please let me know!! This is what I want to try making

I found them here but I'm hoping I can find them somewhere in Calgary (any Calgarians reading this hook me up eh!)

The big day has arrived!

I can now show you one of my layouts I made for my Guest Design creation for Gauche Alchemy. The kit was so fun and I decided to do my layout on John because he is so smart about so many things. Not only can this man build a house (he's built 2 of ours!) but he can do electical, some plumbing, mechanical stuff and so much more. He always amazes me with how much he knows about so many things, geeky things. He watches the learning and discovery channels ALL the time, which kind of drive me nuts because I don't care about any of that stuff (I'd rather be in my scrap room making stuff!!) haha

I have more projects but that's all I can show you for now. Make sure you pop over there and check out the amazing work from the DT girls. Amy has done a canvas that is positively drool worthy!! I am inspired to make another canvas now after seeing hers!!

Sunday, February 8, 2009

Check this out!

Tomorrow is the big reveal of the February Kit over at Gauche Alchemy that I had the pleasure and honor of playing with as Guest Designer. I can hardly wait to see it up on their site!! If you love unique, creative and fun items then you won't be disappointed. This isn't your run of the mill monthly scrapbooking kit. Oh no...it's much, much more. You'll see, check it out tomorrow!! Also, they are having a su-weet giveaway that looks like this

Can you imagine winning some of that scrappy goodness??? I can and it makes me giddy just thinking about it! Go on over and see what you have to do for a chance to win this amazing RAK!!

Journal Junkie

Ever since I joined the A Year in the Life of an Art Journal I have become hooked on journal pages. I am starting to experiment more with using papers instead of just paint on my journal pages and love how it looks. Here is a new technique (well new to me!) I learned from Scrapwitch, you have to check out her blog. Her journal pages are just gorgeous, full of painty goodness and her photography and layouts beautiful. Love. So, my pictures of the technique are pretty lame compared to hers but here is what my page looked like before

Here I've smeared it like she did

and then this is the finished result, which is my "because" page for the A Year in the Life of an Art Journal

I'm going to have alot of fun doing this technique using different color combos. I used that technique on this page and it's one of my favorite pages to date:

I used a magazine image, patterned papers, stamps, paint and a photo and love the mixed media feel to it. Here is another one for the A Year in the Life of an Art Journal, it's my "clearly" project

Now I'm all caught up and can't wait for the next prompt. Of course the next one is on Monday, Feb 16th and I'll be in Calgary so I'll be able to play when I return. With all my new scrappy arty supplies!!! I'll take lots of pics and post some of the goodies when I return! Here is another page that came about after a bad night with our son. When do they grow up? When do they go onto the right path? I sometimes get so full of anger and ask God "why???", and that is how this page came about.

I forgot to post a picture of my creative chaos last week so here it is

So ok, we didn't go bowling because after our late night last night we were both too tired. So we went to the dollar store, grabbed some A & W

which sucked because for one, the burgers looked nothing like the coupons on the paper. What we got were some bland compressed burgers that were so unappealing it was pathetic. The onion rings were $3.09 per order, can you believe that?? For both of us to eat it was a little over $16. We weren't impressed as the burgers were tasteless and the food overpriced. I think we are done with A & W for quite a while.

We also rented the movie "Fireproof" which I've been dying to see.

Check it out here and to stop Johnny from singing make sure you go to the very bottom and click on the little microphone icon to mute so you can hear the movie. Here we go

I loved this movie because there were so many parts that both sides could relate to. At first the hubs was like "uh huh...what kind of movie is this?" and then I just told him it was a couples movie and in the end he said it wasn't bad. I loved Kirk Cameron in this and yes, it's a little churchy but hey, nothing wrong with that. I didn't tell the hubs that I bought The Love Dare book and only made it to day 1.

There are some things they don't need to know. When I get back from holidays I'll have to start up again on day 2. I think sometimes everyone needs a reminder of who is important to them and what really matters in life. It's easy to become complacent and to take people for granted and sometimes a little prod is needed. If you've seen this movie let me know what you thought of it!
