Happy Halloween!!!

I had a little fun using Picnik and freakied up this picture of me in the spirit of Halloween and all! haha

Well, I'm still in my jammies, having coffee, and I have to get all the treat bags made up for tonight. I'm a little insane that way, for some bizarre reason I make more work for myself but I think it's worth it. You just have to drop a little baggy into their bags and voila! Plus I think the kids like it better too,a little treat bag full of assorted goodies!

I made this layout a little while back and totally forgot to post it! It's when Paige got her nose piercing and I finally got it documented.

She was happy when I chose this picture as her school picture because it was a portrait pic that showed off her little nose piercing.

I was really happy with the school pictures this year as it looks like a studio
portrait! This is her in Grade 10 this year, I just love this picture. Which also leads me to my next layout about a funny story that happened to us on her birthday this past summer. If you click on the layout it should go bigger if you want to read the story.

Ok, I played along this week with the Think Monday Think ATC and the theme was "halloween" but this didn't turn out as I imagined. For one it's not at all scary. For two I messed up because it's supposed to say "trick or treat", not "treat or trick!!" but it was already glued down and dried when I noticed. sigh. Oh well. Here it is

Last night John and I watched the show called "The Orphan"

ooohhhh it was good! It was strange because the whole movie was in black and white, who does that nowadays?? But I'm thinking it was to give it an even eerier feel. UPDATE: apparantly when the DD watched it it was in color so I'm not sure why ours was in black and white. Maybe we pushed a wrong setting?? I loved that this movie wasn't just one of those stupid teen slasher movies, it had a unique story line and a twist. I gave it an 8 out of 10.

Ok, I'm off to finish my coffee and then start my day. There are goody bags waiting to be made!

A year in the life of an art journal

I finally made my journal page for the new prompt over at the A year in the life of an art journal and the word was "underneath". I thought about it for a while and what came to me was the fact that even though I can appear independent and have a don't mess with me attitude, I really do have a soft heart underneath it all. I can cry at the drop of a hat (which I totally hate!!!) and feel alot of empathy for those that have hardships or don't have things as good as I do. Just reading the newspaper or watching the news is enough to depress me and make me appreciate just how blessed I am. I guess having a soft heart is a good thing but I just wish I had a control switch on the faucet because if I think of something awful that I've read about I can literally tear up. grrrrrr.....

Next up I brought out my warped sense of humour for my ATC for the Mixed Media Monday challenge and the theme was "moustaches". Ok, the story behind this one is that when I was a young girl we lived in British Columbia and my family and I were taking a ferry and on this ferry was a man who had a big moustache and his t-shirt said "moustache rides 5 cents" and then that was crossed out and it said "free". I remember my mom talking about it to my dad and at the time I didn't know what that meant but now whenever I see a moustache I think of that and laugh!! haha I'm sick I know.

Today I got 2 of my Making Memories Slice design cards in the mail that I won off Ebay! woohoo!! I got the Spring and the Animal Crackers cards today and tried them out and they are awesome! I cut a crow sitting on a branch and a handprint. I'll have to take some pics and do some stuff with them but I'm still in love. Plus I got them for just under $25 compared to $60 including tax at my Michaels store!!!! That alone is enough to get me pumped!!

Tonight I watched Vampire Diaries, which I'm totally hooked on, and it was soooo wicked!!! You can totally feel the sexual tension and desire just oozing from the screen. That bad boy Damon is sooooo bad he's good (Stefan's not too shabby either!) Sigh. Here's a little eye candy for you. Have you been watching it?

Here is a layout I did to scrap some of our summer vacation pictures and I love how it turned out. When I have so many pictures I'm all about simplifying the layout, using lots of pics so I can remember all the great times and doing journaling.

Well, tomorrow at work we are dressing up for halloween and my trusty sidekick and I (my BF Gay) are going to wear our matching flannel pjamas, yes the ones I spilled silver leafing pen on, so I'll take some pics to post. Later dudes!

Vampires!

is the theme this week over at Thank God It's Friday and "faces" is the theme over at Theme Thursday so I made this ATC for both challenges.

I had a great weekend and even though my parents were only here for a couple days we made the most of them. Mom and I managed to get a little shopping in and I found this cozy purple flannel shirt as well as a couple other tops (she bought the red flannel one). Here is my ma and I

and here is my pa and I

and John and I

I haven't had much time to make stuff but I did make this layout last night. I thought it was about time I documented my blog in a layout. I can't believe that next month I will have been blogging for 2 years now!!

I realized that it had been almost a year since I had updated my slide show at the very bottom of the page so I spent a little time adding newer layouts to it as well. I have also been wondering if the black background makes it difficult to read the text? I tried a white background once but wasn't sure if I liked it, I love how striking the black is and how the pictures and layouts pop. What are your thoughts, black or white? Does it matter? Can you read the black fine?

Before I go I'll leave you with this video (remember to mute Johnny singing at the very bottom of the page) of Hedley singing "never too late". It's one of my new favorite songs that I've been playing alot in my car. I tried to find the music video but they removed the imbed feature so this will have to do! Enjoy!

TGIF!!

I'm off today and my parents are in town (they live out of province) so it's going to be an extra good weekend!! I finally scrapped our garage sale we had this past summer and loved how it turned out. I wanted to do LOTS of journaling so I would remember the funny stories (like how one woman walked around in the blistering heat for 20 mins holding a dollar item only to put it down and leave) and things that happened at it. You would not believe just how hard it is to get some people to part with a dollar. Plus they want you to give everything away. Hello! It's called a garage SALE!!

I played along with the Saturday Surprise challenge blog where the theme was "black and white" and the Created by Hand challenge blog where the theme was "trust" and made this art journal page on John. As you can see I'm still rocking the Slice and used the big star and man as stencils to glimmer mist on and then I cut out little black wings.

I experimented with leaving the repositional adhesive on the Slice overnight and put the glass tray in a drawer so it wouldn't get fuzzies or anything on it, brought it out again last night and it still held the paper to cut a few different sizes of wings. So, I'm hoping that I will be able to get a few days of cutting on each application of adhesive. I'll keep you posted!

Some sad news on the scrappy front, the One Little Word challenge blog is closing it's blog. I stopped by yesterday to see what the new word up was going to be and saw their announcement. I felt sad because I have played along with them for so long, they have inspired me to scrap and use words that I normally wouldn't have, I have had layouts published using their word ups and they have always made me look deeper within myself and create art from the heart. I am going to really miss them and my Wednesdays just won't be the same but I understand that everyone has their own journey and when one door closes another opens. I wish them all the best of luck in their future endeavors!

Bust a move!

Ok, you have to watch this video (make sure you mute Johnny singing at the very bottom of the page) because not only can this man move but this song is totally contagious!! I've been playing it for a few days now and I seriously can't help but bust a move myself when I hear it!!

So, tell me, did you bust a move?? I love it!!

Ok, I played along with the Think Monday Think ATC challenge blog and the theme was "punk" so I made this ATC

Then I decided to do a gel medium transfer for the Crazy Amigo challenge blog where the theme was "stairs". I had this gorgeous image of an angel with only one wing walking up a long flight of stairs, to heaven. I lost the definition by doing the gel medium transfer so I tried adding more color back by painting areas that didn't transfer as well. I think it still has a pretty quality, almost ethereal.

Then the theme over at Mixed Media Monday is "mothers and daughters" and I made this art journal page using my Slice. Yes, you heard me right, more on that after this:

Now what I did was use my Slice to cut shapes out of a piece of acetate stencil. I buy them at Walmart 3 in a pack for around $3. Here is a picture of some of the shapes I cut out on the acetate

I was soooo pumped when it cut through it with no problem!! I almost cackled with glee because you know how much I love using stencils, masks and mists!!! Plus I bid on 4 more Slice design cards and won them from Ebay, here are the cards

I was soooo excited because I got them for around $23 each instead of the $54.95 Michaels charges!! I splurged because I had an unexpected surprise yesterday when I went to the Post Office and found another publication cheque waiting for me!! I will say that I had a couple minor issues with the slice where it didn't want to cut a couple shapes in the 4 inch size, not sure what that is all about but will have to google it and play around with it some more. I'll give ongoing critiques as I do more with it. Hopefully it isn't a dud after I've bought all these design cards!! haha

Ok, the hubs and I are off to parent/teacher interviews and then my ma and pa are in town so I'm hoping to have some fun with them this weekend as well (I'm off tomorrow so I have a long weekend!) Hope you all have a great weekend!

I'm in love with my Slice

Ok, I've only made one layout so far using my new Slice but let me tell you I love what I'm seeing so far!!! Here is my Slice before I unpacked it

Isn't she a beauty?? Then I experimented with a few shapes

Here's a closeup of the shapes I cut

And this is the layout I made using the shapes and it's for the These are a few of my favorite things challenge blog where the theme was "your favorite season"

Can you see how useful this Slice is going to be for me?? I can hardly wait to cut some more shapes today!!! In fact, I won this design card off Ebay yesterday for $25 including shipping. That's a huge savings as Michaels wants $54.95!!! I was so pumped. Still not entirely sure how I will use all the images (hello, never been to the pyramids) and if I just got caught up in the whole Slice thing but I'm still pumped! haha Hmmm...maybe this will force me to travel?? haha

My best friend and I met for lunch yesterday and had chinese food (it was soooo good!) and then we walked around downtown checking out gift shops and stores that we never really get to. Here's my trusty sidekick Gay (or Gayner as I love to call her). I swear we are cosmic sisters....

After we went our separate ways I went to the mall and found myself leaving with 3 tops and 3 cardigans and justified my overspending by saying "well it's for work". I'm totally out of control. Last night John and I watched The Proposal and I loved it, but then again I love Ryan Reynolds!! Hotness! I gave it an 8 out of 10.

Here is a layout I made just because using Urban Lily papers. I have had this paper in my massive paper stash for a few years now and was so happy to finally use it

Also last night Michael and Jessica came over for supper and we ordered pizza and I got to hold my little man again! He just gets cuter and cuter and cuter everytime I see him!!!

Grampa looks so cute holding him in his plaid flannels!

and the young family

This may have been one of the longest posts in history, are you still with me! haha Well, that's all I have for now, I have to get going and pick up Paige to go and get her new glasses. I'll try to snap a couple pics but you know how that goes with teen girls!

I fought the computer virus and won!

Last night I scanned my full computer (something I do when I remember as my program is set to do a quick scan every few days) and it found a trojan virus, one that they call a keylogger. Oh great. So I did my due diligence and found out it's a nasty virus and it had been wreaking havoc on my computer because in the last couple days my computer would just shut down, in the middle of what I was doing, and a few other odd things. So that's what promped me to scan. So then do you think it was an easy thing to get rid of? Nope. I spent my whole evening googling how to get it off, reading about other people who had spent 12 hours trying to no avail. But after downloading a few free programs and sweating over the puter, this morning when I did my full scan again it was clean! I am sooooo happy!!!! I think I'll start doing a full scan every couple days or so just to keep on top of this.

Now that I can rest assured my computer is not going to be hacked here is an art journal page I did for the Inspire me Thursday challenge blog where the theme is "winged things" and for the Theme Thursday blog where the theme is "winter"

I made the background using 5 different colors of glimmer mists, paint, stamps and a rub on. I just love this image and think it looks so beautiful, so lovely.

So, guess what I did today? We took Paige to look for a halloween costume (she wants to be a schoolgirl, think Britney in her video, lord help me....) and while we were there I went into Michaels and found myself buying a Making Memories Slice plus an extra cartridge (Just Chillin Teen).

Yikes!! I almost had a sweat going as it was alot more than I thought it was (the slice kit was $199 and the extra cartridge was $54.95). Of course at Michaels you can't use the coupons for any of this (bastards) but I had received a check for some publication work and told myself that I wanted to buy something bigger with it. It didn't cover it all but it covered a chunk of it. So, I now have it charging and hope to play with it later tonight!!! The one thing I'm a little bummed about is how you have to use a repositional adhesive each time so the paper doesn't move when it cuts. I guess I didn't do my homework enough or I would have known about this. But, I'll post some pics and a review earlier in the week for any of you wondering about this product. I used to scoff at the idea of owning a die cut machine, thinking I just wouldn't get as much use out of it and that I would be limited by the cartridges. But after seeing all the possibilites of the Making Memories ones I was sold. Check out this extra one I bought and look at all the cool wings, skulls, words, etc.. this is totally up my alley!

I know they had all the cricuts and accessories 40% off today at Michaels but when I looked at each cartridge they wanted $8.99. So if I wanted a flower diecut, $8.99. A skull diecut, $8.99. At least with the Slice you have one cartridge that gives you fonts, shapes and words. I am so excited to play with it!!!!

Before I go here is a layout I did on all the trucks John has. He is going to be selling a few of them as his pride and joy is the big white truck with the tool boxes on the side. He has always dreamed of having a work truck with those tool boxes and last year his dream came true! So now he has these other ones to sell but I wanted to document them for him so when he's old he can look back and remember all of them!

What a gorgeous day!!!

It is sunny and 22 above whereas earlier this week it snowed. Only in Saskatchewan!! haha Since it was so beautiful out it made me go out and buy this boquet of flowers

Aren't they pretty? I just love seeing them in my kitchen, they make it so cheerful and bright. So I played along with the Mixed Media Monday challenge and the theme was "pink" so I made this art journal page

That's about all I have to report for now. I picked up my Grama today and we went to visit my aunt who broke her hip and had a visit. She's looking awesome for someone who just had a hip replacement 2 weeks ago too! Now I'm off to see what to make for supper and hopefully just have a nice relaxing night. Have a great Saturday!

Time to roll in the gutter!

yo yo yo, where's ma peeps? It's that time again, time to take a stroll in the gutter and play along with the new Gutter Girlz challenge! Here it is:

THE PROMPT:
Tender. Human.
THE SONG:
Afraid by Nelly Furtado
PRODUCT/TECHNIQUE:
Bra Straps
** NO ONE used a BRA STRAP on their projects!! I double dare you to do it!! (Nikki came the closest, with a photo and her bra showing in it)

Doesn't that sound cool? This is my take on it

I loved using my Timmmeeeeee letter masks and lots of yummy paint on this. Freestyle is just so, well, freeing! haha

Work has been super busy this week so I haven't had a chance to play along with any challenges (sob, sob) but now that the craziness is over I'm back in my art room and ready to create!! mmmwwaaaaahhhhh!!!

7 years ago today!!

That I have been smoke free!! yay for me!! I used to looovveee smoking, especially when I would have drinks. I could smoke to beat the band. But then 7 years ago the hubs and I both quit. He stayed quit for 2 years (I was so mad when he started up again!!) and I continue to be smoke free and don't miss it a bit. In fact, I hate the smell of smoke on his clothes, on his fingers, when I smell it on people (especially when they've come in from outside) and am now very sensitive to the smell. I don't get down on people though because I know everyone will have their time when they want to quit (just don't smoke around me though!)haha. I feel so much better and love that I don't have that monkey on my back anymore, especially in the winter when I see John go outside to smoke! haha

Ok, I made this art journal page for this new challenge blog I found called Scrap that poetry and this was the poem you were to take inspiration from

If by Rudyard Kipling

If you can keep your head when all about you
are losing theirs and blaming it on you;
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you;
But make allowance for their doubting too;
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting;
Or, being lied about, don't deal in the lies,
Or, being hated, don't give way to hating,
And yet don't look to good, nor talk to wise;

If you can dream - and not make dreams your master;
If you can think- and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with triumph and disaster
And treat those two imposters just the same;
If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools;
Or watch the things you gave your life to broken,
And stoop and build'em up with wornout tools;

If you can make one heap of all your winnings;
And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breathe a word about your loss;
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: "Hold on"

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virture,
Or walk with Kings - nor lose the common touch;
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you;
If all men count with you, but none too much;
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds' worth of distance run-
Yours is the Earth and everything that is in it,
And- which is more- you'll be a Man my son!

Isn't that just a fabulous poem? It really, really made me think and this is what I made. It's a personal page so I didn't want to journal on it but it means alot to me (you can click on it to see it bigger)

I'm already looking forward to their next challenge and seeing what the poem will be!

Gobble Gobble!!

Happy Thanksgiving to all you Canadians out there! This year instead of cooking the standard turkey we are ordering a bucket of KFC chicken and the full meal deal. Yep, you heard me right! When I tell people they usually look at me like I'm kidding, or with horror but that's what the gang wants and who am I to complain? I don't have to cook!! haha So, John is working today, Paige is sleeping and I'm still in my jammies having coffee, sounds like a good deal to me!

It was very fitting that the word over at the One Little Word challenge blog was "gratitude" being it's Thanksgiving today and all. So last night while John slept I made this layout showing everything I am so very grateful for. I also used this layout to play along with The Creative Type where the theme was "masking". So I used some old paper letters as my mask and my trusty glimmer mists to make this layout that just makes me happy looking at it.

Now alot of the times when I just have more challenges to do than time I like to combine them and make them do double duty. Well this next art journal page I made do triple duty!! I know! How cool is that eh? I played along with the A Year in the Life of an Art Journal where the theme was "tasty", also with The Next Step challenge blog where the challenge was "to make a project using treats of some kind. This can be actual candy, candy packaging, faux candy, whatever your creative brain comes up with as long as it is sweet" and lastly but not least the Lots to Do challenge blog where the theme was "bright colors". Whew! So, without further adieu I made a journal page about John and his chocolate addiction complete with an actual chocolate bar wrapper, the word tasty and bright colors!

I also made a couple ATC's this weekend, this first one is for the Thank God It's Friday challenge where the theme was "rain". I made my card out of watercolor paper and glimmer misted the background

This next one was for the Saturday Surprise where the theme was "from the past"

I had made this next layout a little while ago and am just posting it now as it was one of my projects for Magistical Memories using their happy tree and a border. I just love these action shots of John and Michael laying the sod this past July.

And to finish off this is an art journal page I made just because I loved all these fun goodies

I'll try to pop back tomorrow to post some Thanksgiving pics, complete with a pic of the bucket of chicken! haha
