End of the month mojo...

and March's Honorary Gutter Girl!! This month it was my turn to do a tutorial over at
Gutter Girlz so of course I chose to do it on my love of misting!!! Here is my tutorial:

I am such a sucker for mists right now and am loving using the Tattered Angels Glimmer Mists. Here is my much loved collection at the moment (my Precious.......)

When I look at mists I see endless possibilities, backgrounds and fun. I love using stencils (store bought plus I make my own) and the Tattered Angels Glimmer Screens. In this next picture here is the paper before I misted with a glimmer screen on it

and these are the colors I chose to use for my project (aren't they pretty????)

So I misted over the screen until I got the look I wanted, carefully lifted the glimmer screen off and let the paper dry. Then I just let my imagination run wild and made this

What a difference the Glimmer Mists made to that plain paper right? Also, don't forget you can use the negative side of the glimmer screen since it is usually still wet and covered in mists after you have used it so what I did was take a plain piece of white cardstock and flip the wet glimmer screen over and press it onto the white cardstock. Now I have that same image as above but the negative image is in color. I have covered alot of it up with the pictures but this is what it looks like

On this layout I didn't even use any patterned paper because the mists and paint were all that was needed for a background. I also love spraying my mists and having them drip down my page as shown on these art journal pages (and I do this alot!!!)

So there you have it! Now you all know that my name is Glenda Tkalac and I am a
misting maniac!! mmaawwaaaaaa! If you've never played with mists run, don't walk, and grab some and let your inner child free! It is sooo much fun to play with and gives such a unique and individual look to your art. Have fun!!

I would also invite you to hop on over to March's Honorary Gutter Girl's blog,
Michelle LaPoint Rydell. Her work is so inspiring and makes me sooooo happy! I've never seen someone who has such happiness in their work. All you have to do is look at it and I think you can see pieces of her, pieces of her happy little soul. I love this girl!!

Well, tomorrow is my last day of work and then I will have a glorious week off!! Of course some of it we are going to spend cleaning the house and getting ready to put it up for sale but Friday is going to be my lazy art day where I just might not leave my art room. maaawwwaaaaaaaa!!

What a busy weekend~!

Friday was my day off and John and I went car shopping for our DD, who has her learner's license, and will hopefully get her drivers in July. We went to a car auction and checked out the vehicles that were going to be auctioned off on Saturday and had lunch at Red Lobster

This is my fave lunch to order and it was sooooo good!!!!!!

and checked out this big wholesale place where John was literally like a kid in a candy store!

and then we went home. On Saturday we went out for breakfast, which was so nice because it had been a long time since we had done that, and then we hit the highway again to go to the car auction. It started at 1:00 and went until around 4:00. There were no bathrooms there, only porta-potties that they set up in the middle of the auction, eeeewwwwww!!! I had to use it once and was horrified. Thank God I had had a few beers the night before and was a little deydrated! haha

We got Paige a 2000 Pontiac Grand Am GT, fully loaded with a sunroof (which she loves) and are pretty happy with our buy. You never know what you are going to get at an auction so you are kind of taking your chances. So far so good though and John spent today cleaning it all up for her (while as you can tell his own truck sat dirty and neglected), what a good dad!!! Here it is:

The new Scrap-Tastic April "Hello Spring" kit is now up!!

It is such a fun and cheerful kit and here are the layouts I made using it:

and here are the ATC's I made using the kit

Today it is gorgeous out! Chicken stir fry for supper and then looking forward to Desperate Housewives tonight!! Later dudes!

Just sharing some stuff

This weekend is the monthly online crop over at Scrapbook Star and the theme for this crop is "Time". There are some fabulous challenges so you should pop on over and check it out! My challenge was to "think back on something that makes you sad" so I did this layout using the Scrapbook Star March Kit:

It's about how my son hasn't been able to find a job since the fall. He graduated from his Welding program and had a short term seasonal job in that field and then since then nothing. He worked for my husband for a little while but it just seems like he can't catch a break. He has submitted resumes and even applied for dishwasher jobs and still nothing! And we wonder why alot of young people move away from this city. I keep hoping and praying though...

I played along again with the
These are a few of my favorite things challenge blog as well as the Scrapjacked challenge blog and made this layout on my favorite drink

What can I say? I'm a Coors Light girl.

I played along with the Created by Hand challenge blog where the theme was "are you wearing green?" and the Wednesday Stamper blog where the theme was "women's history month" and made this ATC

I used 4 different stamps for this ATC which I was quite proud of! I used the Tim Holtz postal stamp background, the Tim Holtz filmstrip, the Tim Holtz diamond background on which I used versamark and then used his mustard distressed embossing powder and then the woman was a Viva Las Vegas stamp!

This weekend we watched 2012

and I gave it a 7 out of 10. It was full of excitement and I could feel myself holding my breath at so many spots throughout the movie!! The hubs said he really liked this one as well. I don't really believe in any of it but I'm sure when December 2012 rolls around this will be on alot of people's minds. My mom says that the bible says that no one knows when the world will end so I take comfort in knowing these kinds of shows are just for entertainment. You can bet your ass though there are probably all kinds of zealots out there that are convinced this is true! haha

We also watched New Moon and I gave it a 7 out of 10 as well (John hated it and went to bed early). I liked it but to tell you the truth after all the hype I was expecting a little more. I can definitely say I'm team Jacob now though. he he Did you see his bod???

Oh, I am totally hooked on the True Blood series!!! A lady from work lent me her daughter's series 1 on DVD and I have watched 7 out of the 12 episodes. Think Twilight but waaaaayyyy smuttier!! It's so awesome!! Here's a clip of a scene from season 2 as I notice that season 1 episode 1 won't let me imbed anymore due to copyright....

Ok, are you hooked now??? I can hardly wait to finish the first season and start on the 2nd!!!!

One last thing before I go, I had said in my previous post about how I wasn't happy with alot of my Glimmer Mists clogging up, even new ones that I had just bought. So I emailed the Tattered Angels customer service and received a reply back that same day asking for my address so they could send me out some free replacement nozzles!! Now that's what I call good customer service! I know Making Memories gets a gold star from me for exceptional customer service like this and now I can add Tattered Angels to that list. I'm looking forward to receiving them so I can stop switching nozzles off the ones that do work to the bottles that don't work! haha

For those that have teenage daughters I'll leave you with this post, which is totally true:

TEEN AGED DAUGHTER OWNERS MANUAL Instructions for all those with teenage daughters or daughters who think they are teenagers or who will eventually be teenagers. Congratulations! You are now the proud new owner of a teenaged daughter. Please read this manual carefully, as it describes the maintenance of your new daughter, and answers important questions about your warranty (which does NOT include the right to return the product to the factory for a full refund).

IF YOU FEEL YOU HAVE RECEIVED YOUR TEENAGER IN ERROR: To determine whether you were supposed to receive a teen aged girl, please examine your new daughter carefully. Does she: (a) look very similar to your original daughter, only with more makeup and less clothing? (b) refuse to acknowledge your existence on the planet Earth (except when requesting money)? (c) Sleep in a burrow of dirty laundry? If any of these are true, you have received the correct item.

BREAK-IN PERIOD When you first receive your teen aged daughter, you will initially experience a high level of discomfort. Gradually, this discomfort will subside, and you will merely feel traumatized. This is the 'Break-In Period', during which you are becoming accustomed to certain behaviours that will cause you concern, anxiety, and stress. Once you have adapted to these behaviours, your teenager will start acting even worse.

ACTIVATION To activate your teen aged daughter, simply place her in the vicinity of a telephone or Instant Messenger. No further programming is required.

SHUTDOWN Several hours after activation, you may desire to shut down your teen aged daughter. There is no way to do this.

CLEANING YOUR TEEN AGED DAUGHTER Having a teen aged daughter means learning the difference between the words 'clean' and 'neat'. Teen aged daughters are very clean, because they take frequent showers that last more than an hour. They will scrub themselves with expensive, fragrant soaps which you must purchase for them because 'like I'm sure I'm going to use like the same kind of soap my mum and dad use', When they have completely drained the hot-water tank, they will step out and wrap themselves in every towel in the bathroom, which they will subsequently strew throughout the house. If you ask them to pick up the towels, you are confusing 'clean' with 'neat'. Teenagers are very busy and do not have time to be neat. They expect others to pick up after them. These others are called 'parents'.

FEEDING YOUR TEEN AGED DAUGHTER Your teen aged daughter requires regular meals, which must be purchased for her at restaurants because she detests everything you eat because it is like so disgusting. She does not want you to accompany her to these restaurants, because some people might see you and, 'like I'm sure I want my friends to see me eating dinner with my parents'. Either order take-out food or just give her the money, preferably both. If you order pizza, never answer the doorbell because the delivery boy might see you and, 'oh my god he is so hot'! Yes, your daughter's idea of an attractive man is the pizza boy.

CLOTHING YOUR TEEN AGED DAUGHTER Retailers make millions a year selling stylish and frankly sensible clothing which will look adorable on your daughter. If you enjoy shopping, you will love the vast selections which are available to you. Unfortunately, your teen aged daughter wants to dress like a pop star. You may be able to coerce her into putting on a cute outfit before leaving the house, but by the time she walks in the school door, she will be wearing something entirely different.

OTHER MAINTENANCE Teen aged daughters require one of two levels of maintenance: 'High' and 'Ultra High'. If your daughter is 'Ultra High', this means that whatever you do won't be enough and whatever you try won't work.

WARRANTY This product is not without defect because she has your genes, for heaven's sake. If you think this is not fair, talk to your parents, who think it is hilarious. Your teen aged daughter will remain a teenager for as long as it takes for her to become a woman, which in her opinion has already happened and as far as you are concerned never really will. If you are dissatisfied with your teen aged daughter, well, what did you expect? In any event, your warranty does not give you your little girl back under any circumstances, except that deep down she's actually still there, you just have to look for her.

Time to roll in the gutter!!

The new Gutter Girlz challenge is now up and it goes a little something like this:

THE SONG: The Climb by Miley Cyrus

and here is my take on it using the fabulous Magistical Memories chipboard potty girl (one of my faves!) and chipboard scalloped corner:

Such a powerful song and soooo true. I based my take on the challenge on how I can hardly wait until it's just John and I and the kids are grown up and we don't have any drama. I love my kids dearly but these teen years (and young adult years!) have really taken their toll and we are more than ready for the next stage of our lives. Of course we have one left at home and God willing she will graduate high school and go on to further her education. I know though that all of the things I have had to go through with them have totally made me a stronger person and it confirms that what doesn't kill you only makes you stronger!!

It felt good to play along with Creative Therapy and make this page for my art journal

The challenge was "what advice do you have for other couples?" and I thought about it and I think laughter is so important!!! We have been together for 28 years and thank God we can still laugh together!! John has such a cheerful nature so when I get all bitchy he can laugh it off and even joke about it. He calls me "BB" which is short for big bitch and I love it because it can be so true!! I'll even joke back and say "yeah, BB in the house" like a rapper and do my best rapper impression with my hands. Oh, and when I have my monthly gift I'm then known as "BBB", I'll let you figure it out! hahaha. So, there you have it. Laughter is the best medicine and I think it is soooo important for a relationship. You have to be able to laugh together, laugh at yourself and most importantly laugh at him when he falls on his ass. Kidding! haha Oh, and I can also laugh at the fact that my "g" in laugh stamped upside down! haha

Ok, I do have a little rant and it's about my Glimmer Mists clogging up. #&)_%$&#*(& I have even brought some new bottles home from the store and they have been clogged. Not impressed. I see now that Tattered Angels is even selling replacement nozzles so I assume this is a widespread problem. I'm hoping that they will think of a new design to prevent this from happening because when I'm spending $10 a pop on Glimmer Mists I shouldn't have to also buy a package of replacement nozzles. I'm off to google a way to unclog these suckers and if you have a handy tip please let me know!!

Saturday Surprise!

So every Saturday over at Scrapbook Star I have Glenda's Saturday Surprise where I will talk about either a technique, a challenge, anything that might be of interest. Today I did the "packing tape transfer" technique so I will share it here with you.

The first step is to find an image you want to work with and in this case I am doing 2 because when I make an ATC I love to make an extra one to trade.

Cover your image with packing tape (I use the cheap dollar store stuff)and then burnish it so it really sticks to the image (burnishing means rubbing it with so it adheres smoothly).

Now you can place your image in a cup or bowl of warm water and let it soak for a few minutes so that the paper will start to come off the back when you rub it gently

You can see how the paper is coming away from the image now leaving it more transparent which is a good thing! After all of the paper has been gently rubbed off this is what the images look like

I gently pat the image dry and then start looking for something to make my background. In this case I cut out a portion of this collage sheet for my background. My image was very sticky still so I didn't have to glue it to the background but sometimes if I do have to I use Golden Gel Medium which is clear.

and when I am all done my ATC looks like this

So there you have it. I looovveee doing the packing tape transfer and have made some of my favorite ATC's using this technique!

One of the challenges over at Scrapbook Star was to make a 6 x 12 layout which was good because I had all but abandoned my 6 x 12 "me" album and was more than happy for the little kick in the ass to add a page to it. I made this using their March kit:

This month's challenge over at Magistical Memories is to use NO PATTERNED PAPER! That's right, no patterned paper. You have to also use ribbons and chipboard so make sure you play along and you can have a chance to win some fabulous Magistical Memories chipboard!! Here is my take on the challenge:

I also got to play along this week with some challenge blogs and this ATC is for the Created by Hand blog and the theme was "you go girl!"

This next ATC is for the Mixed Media Monday where the theme was "it's not all black and white"

I tried out my new Marshmallow Glimmer Mist for the black background and love how it turned out!!

This next one is for the Three Muses where the theme was "newspaper" so I cut a page out of the paper and made this

THis last one I made just because I hadn't used this fun stamp yet since I bought it!

Well, I better get a move on my day as I have a house to clean, dogs to walk and a Wii to play! haha I bought the new Wii Sports Resort and John and I have been wanting to play it. Have a great weekend!

A little Creative Therapy

It's been soooo long since I played along over at
Creative Therapy and when I saw the prompt I just knew I wanted to make a page in my art journal for it. The prompt is this: When did you first fall in love?

Here is my art journal page

I'm so glad I played along because this is what journaling is all about. I want to be able to look back and remember all of this stuff when I'm older. It's these memories that I really want to preserve and document. I love these colors because they totally remind me of the 80's and check out my cool black leather jacket and the stubby beer bottle John's holding. Ahhhh....memories......

The sun is shining!!

I was starting to think that winter would never leave! The sun is shining today, I can hear the birds singing and I'm going to be picking up my Grama for breakfast. Life is good!

Before I head out I'll share some projects and news. The Spring 2010 Canadian Scrapbooker magazine came in the mail to me this week and I have 3 layouts in it!! I have one on page 18 and 2 on page 108. I was happy that they requested 2 of my layouts using Glimmer Mists for their section on "misting"!

I had fun making this ATC for the Wednesday Stamper and the theme was "fantasy creatures" so I got to use my new Viva Las Vegas stamp

Then for the Theme Thursday the theme was "art word/s" so I made this

I had been wracking my brain trying to think of what I was going to do for my art journal page for the A Year in The Life Of An Art Journal and then it just came to me. I love silence so why not make a page showing how much I love it? I wanted a very serene picture to symbolize how beautiful silence is and then I cut it all up into inchies (that was the technique) and stamped my title and journaling. I wondered at first if it needed anything more but the more I looked at it the more I knew it was done. It was simple but effective and really shows (I think) how beautiful silence is to me.

Here's a picture of me wearing my leggings to work (you can see Sam looking at me in the background!). It was the first pair I had bought and I wasn't sure if I liked them but when I put them on it was soooo awesome! It's like wearing nothing at all!!

I had posted a thread on a message board about how I loved these leggings and does anyone else wear leggings, yada yada yada...and boy there were different opinions out there! I never knew leggings could be cause such a ruckus! haha There was one woman who even said "my personal rule is that "if you wore them the last time around, you already had your turn". Can you believe it??? How sad is that??? Rules?? What rules?? She probably doesn't wear white after labour day or match black with brown too right? I think fashion rules are meant to be broken and yes I rocked them the first time around and I will damn well rock them this time around too! I think if you love wearing something everyone else be damned. Who cares what people think?? Not me. Thank God my momma raised me to be independent and not give a damn about what others think because it has served me well let me tell you.

Ok, on that note let me leave you with this beautiful haunting song by Gretchen Wilson and have an awesome weekend!!!

Friday fun

I had alot of fun last night making these ATC's and this art journal page for some of the challenges this week. The first project I made is for the
Mixed Media Monday challenge where the theme was one of my favorites, "enchanted". Since I was a little kid I have loved everything to do with enchantment from books to movies so I did an art journal page

The next one was for the Art Pieceschallenge blog and the theme was "house" so I made this little guy

Next up is a card for the 3 muses challenge blog and the theme was "oh man" so I used one of my favorite stamps and did the background with alcohol inks

Well, that's all I have time for for now as I have to run to work but I'll post some more tomorrow. Happy Friday!!

Think Monday Think ATC

Yes, I know it's really Tuesday (thank God!) but here is my take on the
Think Monday Think ATC and the theme was "orange" so I made this ATC (again)

Now the reason I made it again is because I had 2 different requests on the same day to trade for this card (one was you Marit!) and only one card to trade. So what I did was pull the one out of my own personal collection leaving me with none. So I thought well if this one is so popular (even though it sat in my "for trade" folder since April!) I'll make 2 more, one for my personal collection again and one for trade. Well darned if I didn't post it and that same day I got a request to trade for it! Isn't life funny sometimes??

The new kit is up over at Scrap-tastic and it was soooo yummy! Check it out below!!
Host unlimited photos at for FREE!

Here are my projects I made using the kit

and of course I always love to make some ATC's with the kit

One thing I love is seeing everyone's take on the kit because it's always played with so differently. It's neat to see how people's minds think and see their individual styles.

How about you, do you subscribe to a kit? Do you like playing with kits?
