Alcohol Ink ATC's

I joined a swap over at ATC's for all and you had to make 3 cards using alcohol inks and a different technique for each card. In this first card I made I put the alcohol inks onto the felt applicator and just applied them directly to the glossy cardstock, using 2 different color schemes so I would get the cloudy sky effect, and then stamped the image. Oh, make sure if you do this to use Archival Ink. I forgot and used Versafine and it just smudged and didn't dry. So I wiped it off the cards and started over. Duh!

Then in this one I put the alcohol inks on in stripes and added a picture of Marilyn Monroe and some clear acrylic stars that I also colored with alcohol inks

The the last card for the swap is one where I stamped the alcohol inks onto a transparency and then stapled the transparency to white cardstock. I stamped the words using Timmmee's stamp and then used black embossing powder. Now it's a little tricky using embossing powder on the transparancy because when you use the heat gun you have to be careful not to do it too much or it will melt and warp. I also added a little Hambly and colored in the sun and heart with alcohol inks. I love this card

I can hardly wait to see what 3 cards I get in return!! Now you know me, I couldn't stop there. Once I had my alcohol inks out I went on an ATC bender!! This one I dropped the alcohol inks directly from the dropper and then used canned air to make them spread, making neat designs

Then in this one I had these hands, can't remember where I got them but I kick my ass I didn't scan them first before I glued them down so I could use them again!! I love this card.

I loved that color scheme so much I made this one as well using the gorgeous bird image from Jeanet!

and finally this one

Oh, exciting news! I got my copy of the ATC Quarterly in the mail today and I have 3 ATC's featured in there!!!

and here they are

Yay! Yay! I never get tired of seeing my work in print. Ever.

Oh, John and I watched "Shutter Island" on the weekend and it was so awesome!!
I gave it a 9 out of 10, what a twisty movie!!! Leonardo is such a great actor!!!!

I have been on a little bit of a swapping frenzy lately too as I also joined a "draw a booty" swap and will share those cards when I'm done. I may not be hopeless after all. hehe

Journey into Watercolor

Ok, I am trying to learn watercolor painting but it is sooooo much harder than it looks. I thought hey, it's kind of abstract and not really precise, how hard can it be right?? WRONG. I'm here to tell you (and show you! haha) that it is alot more difficult than I ever thought. There are all kinds of washes, colors to mix, shading to get right, perspective, etc.... it's kind of overwhelming and my first attempts are pretty pathetic but I'm going to show them to you for a laugh to show that hey, I don't take myself all that seriously and I know they suck. But, I am also a stubborn person so I'm hoping that will serve me well in terms of not giving up and persevering to learn this craft because I really love how it looks (when done well).

I found this artist on Flickr called Renee Nault and her work is soooo amazing!!! I was totally inspired and wanted to learn how she made these gorgeous ATC's. So, I picked this one that she made here

(isn't her work amazing????)
and I tried to duplicate it with less than stellar results. Here is my take on her card:

Good Lord I have a long ways to go. Practice makes perfect though right? Right???? I sure as hell hope so. Anyways, here is another one I did as I'm also trying to learn how to draw Manga and then incorporate that into watercolor

Now onto some landscape scenes that I can't even believe I'm posting. Ok, here we go (please be kind) with the first ATC called "fly away"

then this ATC is called "Mount Fuji" (what the hell are those blobs, trees???)

and this one is called "reflections"

and this one "solitude" (do you notice how huge I made the man? He should have been smaller I think)

and this one "stormy day"

and last but not least "the boat" (for some reason I kind of like this one)

Ok, needless to say I obviously have not inherited my mom's ability to paint (she paints oil paintings and is amazing!!) and will confess to becoming quite frustrated at times. I may or may not have little pieces of soggy watercolor ATC's strewn around my art room that may have been torn up in fits of rage. But, I will keep trying. So if any of you can recommend a good book or a good site that has beginner watercolor please do!!

Oh, check this out, there is going to be a new art journal coming out and I am sooo pumped!!! Do you know hard it is to find a decent one??? Very!! You art journalers out there know what I'm talking about. I can hardly wait to get my hands on one of these babies!!!

Last night John and I watched "Valentine's Day" and I just loved it!!! I gave it a 9 out of 10 because of the wide range of emotions it made me feel, the all star cast and all of the neat stories in it.

John on the other hand didn't care for it and called it a "chick flick". haha! Tonight I have "Shutter Island" for him so I'm sure that will make up for it!

Well, happy Saturday and I'm off to punish myself some more with trying to make some more watercolor ATC's that look like actual watercolor ATC's! haha Wish me luck!

Fun filled weekend!

I had such a good weekend, full of lots of laughs, family, food and drink!! My ma and pa came into town and on Friday we got together with the rest of the family at my aunt's and had a little party. Then on Saturday we went out for breakfast and had a visit with Michael and Keegan. Here is mom and Keegan (isn't he a little doll???)

Then in the afternoon we all went to the Legion and had drinks (and again lots more laughs!) and here is me and mom (just realized now how much we dress alike!)

and John and I

I don't know about you but I always start out with good intentions like "this time I'm going to take lots of pictures, not going to leave anyone out", etc... and it didn't turn out that way. I didn't get a picture of me and pa (except for this blurry one where he is unaware I'm doing the bunny ears behind him! haha!)

nor did I get a picture of mom and trevor together. Damn. I hate when that happens. I think it's because when everyone gets together it's so busy. Not sure. Will try again next time! My friend Terry also came in from out of province as her mom isn't doing well (she has cancer) and we went out for lunch and strolled around downtown and had a really good visit. I always have fun with her and miss her living here! I feel so badly for her because I know how awful it must be and she is being so strong! Also her husband has been deployed to Afganistan so it has been like a double whammy for her. She never ceases to amaze me with her strength and positive attitude.

I also finished my page for the
A Year in the Life of an Art Journal and the prompt was "tangled" so I made this

and then I made this page on my little sweet pea just because

I had these pictures of my Sam that I had been wanting to scrap since Christmas and finally did so this weekend using some fabulous Hambly.

He is so cute because he will sit and hope that either someone will just give him some damn food or else food will fall from someone's plate. I just had to document this. Isn't he adorable?

John and I watched a couple movies last night, the first was "Edge of Darkness" which I only gave a 6 out of 10 because it was a little slow and mixed up with politics and stuff

and then we watched "Legion" which was pretty good, I gave it a 7 out of 10 and I found it scary because of the whole Revelations thing. Man I hope God never gives up hope on us.

Got a happy email today, a request from Canadian Scrapbooker for one of my layouts! yay! Will mail it away tomorrow.

Well, that's it for now. Tomorrow I go back to work (my liver says "Thank God!") and back to a routine. The realtor called today (I'm starting to hate seeing his number) and we have another showing tomorrow so we cleaned up some tonight. Can someone please buy our house for once and for all??? Someone? Anyone????

Happy mail!!!

Today when I went to post office I was happy to see my layouts returned from Somerset (there were 5 in the Spring 2010 issue) and they packaged them up so carefully which was really nice. It's always a good feeling when I have my art back safe and sound inside my albums.

The other surprise waiting for me was from
Jeanet and it totally made my week!! Inside were a bunch of goodies plus the stamp set that I have been drooling over ever since I saw her using it.

Aren't I lucky???? This really made my week and I am on cloud 9. You have to check out her blog because she does amazing work and you can see how she rocks those stamps too!!

Here are some ATC's I made just for fun and I based all of them on songs. See if you can guess what song

That was "Love Shack" by the B52's and this one

is "Don't talk to strangers" by Hedley and this one

is "True colors" by Cyndi Lauper and last but never least

is "Someday" by Rob Thomas. So there you have it folks. Hope all is well with everyone and I'll catch you later!

Sunny Sunday

and here I sit at my computer having my morning coffee feeling lazy. I should be doing something as it's so beautiful outside but I don't feel like it. Don't you hate when that happens??? I can hear John outside mowing the grass and I'm just in my art room being lazy. Yet I don't feel guilty....

The new prompt is up over at
Gutter Girlz and we have the talented Marit joining us this month as our Honorary Gutter Girl. I love this woman's art, make sure you stop by and check it out. She rocks my world and I think we even think alike sometimes! Here's the prompt:

THE PROMPT:
Not It!!

THE SONG:
Not the Doctor by Alanis Morissette

PRODUCT/TECHNIQUE:
Stitches

And here is my take on it, I made an ATC

Since I have been on a total ATC run here are a couple more I made using the Scrapbook Star May Kit

The stamped woman image was compliments of Marit, we did a little trade and I loved it!! Thanks Marit!! I love how this one turned out

I made this layout of the hubs and his dad using the chipboard cogs and gears by Magistical Memories

I find those cogs and gears are perfect for guy layouts!

Here is a sneak peek of my projects for Scrap-Tastic using the upcoming June Kit:

Sneak #2

Sneak #3

This weekend we watched "The Daybreakers" and it was awesome!!! I gave it an 8 out of 10 because the story was original and it had major action. It's about the world has become a place where most people are vampires and there aren't enough humans to feed on so they have to farm and hunt humans!!

and then we watched "It's complicated" and I gave that a 9 out of 10, it was sooooo good and had some freakin hilarious parts!!

And here is a new scent that I just looovveeeee! Since we have the house up for sale whenever we have a showing I go around the house like a mad woman febreezing the hell out of it with this amazing Thai Dragon Fruit scent:

This stuff is amazing!!!!!

Online crop and ATC madness

Tonight is the online crop over at
Scrapbook Star so if you have ever wanted to join a crop to get some layouts done there are some awesome challenges and great prizes. This month's theme is "Hollywood" so my challenge is to make a layout using star shapes and I made this using their May kit:

Yes the big "my life" is from my Slice! yay!! yay!! Still loving my Slice.

Also, I made a whack, and I mean a whack of ATC's the other night for a variety of challenge blogs that I haven't had time to play with for so long. The first one is for the Theme Thursday blog where the theme was "butterflies or butterfly wings"

Then there was the Wednesday Stamper where the theme was "party" and the Crazy amigos where the theme was "numbers" so I combined the 2 challenges and made this

Next up is the Think Monday Think ATC where the theme was "travel" and I had some fun with this one

Over at the Created by hand blog the theme was "purple" so I made this

Um yeah, I may or may not have been pissed at the hubs at the time I made this. Last challenge was the 3 muses challenge blog where the theme was "legs"

Whew. Are you still with me?? haha I loved playing along and need to find more time to do these because I love ATC's. Big time. Ok, I'm off to crack another beer here and start either a layout or an art journal page. Have a great night!
