A Year in the Life of an Art Journal

I'm back from holidays and it was a lovely time as always! I haven't had much time to be artsy (actually I've had zero time to be artsy) so all I'm posting is the new A Year in the Life of an Art Journal prompt hosted by yours truly! Here it is:

THE PROMPT: Childhood memories
(it can be something from your own childhood or from your kids, a memory, a thought...)
THE STUFF: Glimmer mists & paint (time to get messy!)
THE TECHNIQUE: silhouettes (can be black, patterned paper, anything goes as long as it's a silhouette)

How fun is that right?? Some of the fondest memories I have are of my kids and whenever I drive home for lunch from work (the elementary school is right near my work) and see a little girl with a pink backback I always think of my daughter so I really enjoyed making this page. Of course she is almost a grown woman now so the memories are always bittersweet.

Here is my journal page

Today John and I went looking at carpet, lino and paint samples to match up with our hardwood. I'm getting super pumped!!! We are at the mudding and taping stage and I'll post some pics soon, along with pics of some of the fun stuff I bought on my trip.

I hope to see some of you play along with us over at the A Year in the Life of an Art Journal!!

A Year in the Life of an Art Journal

I'm a day late because life has once again kicked me while I'm down but here is the new A Year in the Life of an Art Journal prompt brought to you by Rachel!

THE PROMPT: My Favorite Things
ie: a few of the things you LOVE about someone you love. Can be alive or dead.
THE STUFF: Lists and ephemera
ie: have a few tokens from that someone? Maybe the cover of the CD with "your song" or a napkin from the restaurant you both love to eat at...
THE TECHNIQUE: Pockets
ie: Use pockets to store those "things" on your page.

I have so many scrapbooking supplies that I "just had to have" when the craze was on so I used a bunch of them in place of ephemera. I did a page on what I love about John and loved the eclectic mix of goodies on this page. It's times like these that I'm glad I hoarded so many scrap supplies because it truly does come in handy when art journaling, so dig into those scrapbooking supplies people!!
Don't be afraid to mix it up! Here's my take on the prompt:

It's so fitting that this was the prompt because on Valentine's Day John got me an ipad2!!!!!!! Yes!!!!!!!!!!!! I was soooo surprised and happy!! I was in my art room on the computer and asked him where my calculator was and he said "did you check under the blueprints?" so I lifted up the blueprints that were sitting on the computer desk and there was a shiny new 32GB black ipad 2 sitting there!! For moi!!!! How lucky am I?? He knew I was wanting one for so long and he surprised me with it. Just another reason why I love him so.

I haven't had much time to play around with it but I did get it synced and set up and have played a few of my games on it. It's so much better playing games on this rather than the little iphone! haha I'm leaving tomorrow for vacay to see my parents and will be taking it with me and looking for a nice case for it while I'm in Calgary. So...I will see you all later when I return!

I love you lazy Sundays...

On Sundays I love to stay in my jammies and not leave the house. It's decadent. I spent way too much time on the computer, as usual, and made a layout. yay!!

Watched the 2nd Spartacus last night, soooo good!!!! Cannot wait for Game of Thrones and True Blood to come back as well. We had the sweet peas yesterday and had a really nice visit. Keegan called me "Grama" twice and it melted my heart. Here he is having snack time, his favorite nacho cheese chips and chocolate milk.

and here's John and Caitlyn (she's teething and wasn't herself yesterday, just wanted to sit and snuggle)

and here's John and Michael drywalling the ceiling!

and screwing it into place

I can't wait for it all to be drywalled, it gives you a better idea of the space you have to work with!!

Happy hump day!

I went to the dentite today because I'm a night time clencher. Kind of like a grinder but I just clench, with intense pressure. With pressure so instense I can crack teeth. And I have. I have a nightime appliance (mouth guard) that I've been wearing pretty faithfully but I still cracked a filling in one of my molars. So the dentist had to dig it all out and replace it and says he wants to crown it soon. Oh joy. So I'm sitting here nursing a beer because after all that I deserve one dammit.

I actually did 2 layouts on the weekend and here they are (yes, I am still pathetically scrapping last summer, boy I'm behind)

and

I stopped by the house today and John and Michael are busy drywalling! We are now at the drywall stage!!! yay!!

Here's JJ

and Michael (I am so proud of how much he has learned from John!)

Looking forward to my 3 day weekend and seeing my little sweet peas on Saturday!!
