I saw John Mellencamp live in concert last night!

I am still pinching myself over the awesome concert last night. I saw John Mellencamp live last night and he rocked da house!!!! He played some new songs from his new album as well as all the old hits that I loved when I was younger. I felt like a teenager again, especially when he sang "hurt so good". I remember being 16 and at a friend's house party when that song was blaring and I was dancing away. Oh the memories....he also had the crowd sing along to "Jack and Diane", it was perfect.

I was caught twice snapping pics by 2 different security guards but I thought I'd be damned before I left this concert before getting some pics to scrap!!! haha! Here are my pics

He had a great selection of t-shirts for sale too and I love the one I got. The only thing is that I wish it had the dates and places on the back. There was a black one that did but I didn't like it as much as the grey one I got. Next weekend I go to see Honeymoon Suite live in concert, remember them?? Total 80's flashback!!!

On a craftier note, here are a couple layouts I did on the weekend

Now I have my corkboard full with 6 layouts and I love to look at it. I'll try to post a pic of it my next post!

I made my own chevron stamp!

Ok, so you probably know that chevron is the hottest thing out in scrappy land right now right? I've been seeing it everwhere from on layouts to purses to home decor. What is chevron you ask? It's an inverted V shaped pattern and it's pretty cool. I got the idea to make my own chevron foam stamp from Julie Fei-Fan Balzer's blog where she gives an awesome tutorial (mine pales in comparison) and also great examples of chevron prints. She is like my scrap crush right now, totally. Here is my sad tutorial and forgive the poor focus, I did this at night and the light was poor!

First off I had a set of foam Making Memories stamps that you can see off to the side and I had never used the straight thick lined one. So I thought why not make it into a chevron stamp that I will use and then I won't have to buy one since I'm on this self imposed ban right? So first off I took my ruler and made my lines (and you can make them as thick or thin as you want the stamp to be)
and the next step is to use your ruler to connect the lower inside corner of each box to the upper outside corner.
Now you are going to roughly scribble in the parts that you DON'T want to cut away. I did mine an alternating chevron pattern but now wish I also had an even one. I need to find out where to buy stamp blocks now!!! If you know where please let me know!

Now came the fun part. Cutting away the white spaces with my little cutting knife. Keep in mind this is foam so it wasn't the easiest but I did it!! Here is my new homemade chevron stamp
I tested it out by putting the ink on it and voila! Here is the layout I made using the new stamp

I love it!!!! I also made this layout and challenged myself to use colors that I haven't been using lately and am enjoying the different look of it

So how about you? Are you diggin the chevron? Know where to buy stamp blocks? I may have to shoot Julie an email to see where she gets hers....the possibilities could be endless!!

A Year in the Life of an Art Journal plus I scrapped!!!!!

The new prompt is up over at the A Year in the Life of an Art Journal and it was super inspirational!! Here it is:

THE PROMPT: If I were an Open Book

ie: if you could be any character, from any of your favorite books, who would you be, and why?

THE STUFF: Book page background

THE TECHNIQUE: update Picassa and use the Pencil Sketch to create a "sketch" self portrait of yourself. Then print it onto your book page background. Use THIS ARTWORK (see blog for link) as your inspiration.

Here was my take on it:

I loved being challenged for this and I ended up printing my sketched picture of myself out onto some patterned paper that I just cut into a 8 1/2 by 11 inch sheet and fed through my printer. I then layered that onto some dictionary style paper and tried to stick to the color scheme of the artwork we were shown. This was something I would have never thought about doing so thanks Rachel! I loved how this turned out and did some mega journaling on things that I wish I could change about myself. Come and play along with us I would love to see what you do!!

Stop the presses, I scrapped this weekend!! FINALLY!!! I looked back and I hadn't scrapped a layout since April 13th, holy crap. I scrapped 3 layouts this weekend since all it did was rain here. Here are 2 and I'll have to wait until tomorrow to take a pic of the 3rd as it's late now.

I noticed that I seem to be drawn to these colors again so my 3rd layout I made sure to make TOTALLY different. Have a great night!

New art room I love you!!!

I took some pictures of my art room and having it so clean and organized was definitely what inspired me to make my latest canvas. I could not believe the massive amount of shit I unloaded, otherwise known as art supplies. I truly would not need to buy anything else and would be able to make art until I die. Wow. In fact, I was so broken by the packing and unpacking that I told myself I will not buy any more. You heard me. No more patterened paper, no more stamps (that will be a hard one....), no more embellishments, etc.. I seriously need to just use what I have before the floor in my art room gives out.

Here is my new art room! Here is where I sit and make art, love the light from the window!
This bookcase was one that John made me when we were newly married and it fits alot of my art supplies just perfectly!
Here is where I waste, I mean spend, alot of my time on the computer. You will notice how sad my bare bulletin board looks. I'm hoping to fill it up with layouts soon!!
I love these organizers and this is my canvas wall.
I'm going to fill up this wall with canvases, did you notice my newest one?
I even have stuff in my closet. Good grief.
I am so happy to be out of the rental and into our new house and I'm loving my new art room!!! Now I have to find some time to get some good old scrapping done.

I'm back in the saddle again!!

Ok, so are you singing Aerosmith now, I am! Plus I'm just so happy that I got my art room organized this weekend (will post pics soon) PLUS made a canvas!!! I made a 16 x 20 canvas and took pictures of the progress along the way, just because I love seeing how it all comes together. This canvas was inspired by a unicorn that was on a card that I had received. Are you ready? Ok here we go:

 My work space
 The clean up
 The finished canvas!
I love how this turned out. I used some stencils and spray paint (the black numbers, cityscape and tree) as well as lots of paint, glimmer mists and scrap goodies. One thing I noticed is that I tend to be drawn to these colors as my other canvases are similar. Me thinks I need to shake things up a wee bit next time!!
