A Year in the Life of an Art Journal

The new post is up over at the A Year in the Life of an Art Journal and here it is:

This guest host prompt is brought to you by Linda!

THE PROMPT: RELAX - what do you do to stress down when you are really stressed.

THE STUFF: teabag , use anything from the teabag or teabag wrapping.

THE Technique: I want to see some kind of spray paint. You can even make your own of some very strong tea or distressed ink in water or what ever you fancy.

I couldn't pick just one thing that I do to de-stress so I did my journal page on a few different things that I do when I'm stressed out. I make art, I go to bed early and sleep, I have happy hour (cheers!) and I also read every single day!

Come over and play along with us!

Winner Winner Chicken Dinner!!!

So it's Saturday and today is the day I said I would pick the winner of my little giveaway for guessing which color camera I bought. I put the 3 names on paper (hey I'm not fancy)
and picked one lucky winner..... DRUM ROLL PLEASE...DDDRRRRRRRR..... and the winner was...........
Marit please email me your address so I can mail your prize out to you next week!! Thanks everyone for playing along with me and for guessing. Now I can tell you all that I bought the black camera!! haha No one guessed that! My rationale behind that was if I'm trying to discreetly take pictures, like at a concert perhaps, that the black would blend in better! haha

Happy Saturday everyone and I'll leave on a crafty note and share my latest layout
Also, don't forget you still have time for free shipping over at Viva Las Vegas Stamps

Thanks for dropping by everyone, I really love having company!! Have a great day!!

Marianas Trench Concert!!!

Paige and I saw Marianas Trench live last night in concert and it was fabulous!!!!! These guys are one of my favorite bands so I was super pumped to be able to see them live. In case you aren't familiar with them here are a couple songs they sing that I love:

and

One of the reasons that I love these guys so much is because of how fun they make their videos and their songs. Josh Ramsay also has an incredible voice!!!

Here are a couple videos from the concert that I found on youtube

and

and

OMG it was soooo amazing!!!

Here's Paige and I ready to go to the concert
and here are some pics of the fabulous concert

The band all came out in their tighty whities for their song, it was spoofing Tom Cruise in Risky Business from their "Desperate Measures" music video! haha

Then Josh body surfed the floor crowd it was awesome!!!
Paige and I in our seats at the concert!
and of course got my concert T!!
This was one of my favorite concerts ever and I am so happy I had the chance to see them live!!!! I took all of these pictures with my new camera, except the one of Paige and I in our seats that one was taken by my iphone.

Fun with the Viva Las Vegas Hitchhiker Stamp!

Not only do I love using stamps for my ATC's but I also love using them in my scrapbook layouts! I find that they give a unique look to them and can really personalize them. In this scrapbook layout I used the fabulous Viva Las Vegas Hitchhiker stamp

as well as Miracle Tape and May Arts floral trim to make this layout which was published in the Spring 2013 issue of Canadian Scrapbooker.

but here is a close up of the fabulous hitchhiker stamp

I have also used this hitchhiker stamp in some of my ATC's

as well as in an art journal page

So there you have it! Look at how many ways this fabulous hitchhiker woman can be used. I love using stamps in so many ways and find it a challenge to make them "new" again in different projects.

Until next time!

7 Gypsies Vintage Receipt Holder

I have been carrying the 7 Gypsies Vintage Receipt Holder around for almost a year now and FINALLY took it out of it's box!!
I love all things 7 Gypsies and also have their ATC spinner as well as an ATC sized shadow box (which you will see right away) so I was happy to finally make use of it today. I thought it would be a great idea to showcase my more recent ATC's instead of putting them into my ATC binder right away. This way I can enjoy them for a while and as I make new ones add them and take them away from the holder. One thing I had to do was put smaller sized thick cardboard behind each ATC as the spring was so strong it bent the ATC's. Now that there is thick cardboard behind each one though it's no problem. Here is my ATC holder hanging in my art room
and here is a close up of it

and here are both of my 7 Gypsies ATC holders together on my wall
and here is a view of my computer desk. I love my bulletin board because I can enjoy up to 6 layouts before I have to put them into their albums. Now I can also enjoy 12 ATC's before I have to put them into their albums!!

It's been a very artsy weekend and I'll also share 2 layouts I did
and
That's all for today, have a great Sunday!

New camera and giveaway!!

I bought myself a new camera and so far I love it!!! I had a Canon
Powershot S3 IS before and I loved the 12X zoom but I didn't love the big honkin size. So now I treated myself to a Canon Powershot SX240 HS and it has 20X zoom!!!

This will be perfect for when I go to concerts as I  can just pop it into my pocket and avoid the purse searches! haha I am going to see Marianas Trench this Tuesday in concert and cannot wait!!!
This is a close up of the front and the back (taken from the web, not my pics)

and the back

There were 3 colors of cameras available
and I if you want to have a chance to win the prize please leave a comment as to which color you think I chose (you don't even have to be right, you just have to guess, how easy is that???)

What's the prize you ask? I have a brand new Tim Holtz flourish mask
and a brand new never used Purple Onion Designs Antique Fair rubber stamp plate!

Awesome eh? I had doubles of these and want to pass them on to someone else to enjoy so please leave a comment and guess which color of camera I got. I will then pick a random winner next Saturday!

Here are a few pictures I took with the new camera. This picture was taken without any zoom from my front step
I drew a black arrow pointing to where our squirrel Henry is sitting and then zoomed in and took this picture
Isn't that amazing??? Here are a couple more Henry pictures

I love this camera. So much. Can't wait for the concert so pop back next week and hopefully I'll have figured out how to take some rockin concert pics as well! haha

On a crafty note here is a layout I did last week on a glass making class I did in April
So don't forget to leave your camera color guess and have a great weekend!

A Year in the Life of an Art Journal

The new prompt is up over at the A Year in the Life of an Art Journal and here it is:

THE PROMPT: Fall is in the AIR

THE STUFF: I love fall. So this prompt I want you to share what makes it FALL for you... the leaves changing? The crisp air? Starbucks finally selling their Pumpkin Spice Lattes again?

THE TECHNIQUE: Use some Distressing on your page. (roughed up edges, inked edges, sanded photos or paper... that sort of thing)

I had fun using alot of paint, glimmermists and molding paste to make this page on what I love about fall. Here is my page:

Free Shipping at VLVS!!!!

Guess what?  Viva Las Vegas Stamps is having FREE SHIPPING for the month of October!!!

What's better than getting your favorite stamps shipped to you anywhere in the world? Getting them shipped to you for FREE!!!

Just use coupon code "OCTSHIP " to receive free shipping on any order! Remember: apply the code to your cart WHILE you shop, not at checkout.

Make sure you check it out and treat yourself to some of those unique stamps you have been wanting!!

On a scrappy note I had 2 layouts that had a gazillion pictures and I only wanted to do one page so I just did them. I try to remind myself that it's about the pictures and memories, not the pretty papers and embellishments and doing a page with a whack of pictures and not much else is OK!! Here is one I did on a family get together that had 15 pictures

and this was my yearly getaway trip to see my parents and it had 12 pictures!
I can't do layouts of trips and get togethers that span 5 or 6 pages because for me it's just not realistic. I'm still scared how I'm going to store all my albums when I'm old!!! Yikes!!! haha

First post as a Viva Las Vegas Stamps DT member!

Here is my very first post as a new DT member! yay!! I love making ATC's (artist trading cards) and first started making them when I attended a free workshop in 2008. After that I was hooked and have since made over 600 ATC's and have traded with people from all over the world and regularly participate in ATC swaps as well.

I have 3 binders full of ATC's and love to experiment with different techniques when I make them. One of my favorite products to work with is Glimmermists and I use them almost everywhere!

On this ATC I used watercolor paper for my background as it holds up well under the Glimmermist. I sprayed the Glimmermist and let it run and then dry. I then stamped my image and cut it out and glued it onto the watercolor paper. I used watercolor pencils to color in her dress and the grass and since I love quotes added one of my favorite ones.

I used the VLVS image "Lady by fence" stamp

and this is the card I made:

I hope you all enjoyed this and until next time,

Update on our Philips TV

This is a recap of a previous post and the update is at the bottom:

I don't know what we were thinking when we bought a Philips 50 inch LCD TV from Walmart, especially a Philips! Of course we said no to the extended warranty, as we have never had a TV crap out after a month a half!! So...the first month the TV was fine, then 2 weeks later it started having pixelly lines as well as bizarre colors and has only gotten progressively worse. So I called Walmart and because they only warranty TV's for 30 days we now had to go through the manufacturer. Thus the nightmare begins.

So I had to contact Philips and since there isn't anyone close to us who would come out and repair the TV (keep in mind this is a brand new 50 inch TV!!!) they would send us a new TV and the courier would take the defective one back. This was all supposed to happen in 5-10 business days and this ordeal has been going on now for almost a month and a half.

I have made numberous calls to Philips and have been assured that "someone" will get back to me, yet they never do. So I end up calling AGAIN, only to be told that now that they have had to make a new notation on our file that it will now be an ADDITIONAL 3-5 business days that I will be contacted in. What a bunch of bullshit!!! I have spoken with Josh and Jordan and the gang from Philips and keep being told the same thing in the same robotic customer service laden voice and I'm sick of it. I hate Philips with every fibre of my being and am warning you if you have a choice between any other TV please think carefully.

Here is what we are watching alot of the time

 What a piece of shit

If they think I'm going to go away they are sadly mistaken. I am like a frickin dog with a bone and will get this resolved. What kind of corporation punishes you for phoning in to see how your issue is coming along by putting you at the bottom of the queu???? Of course "Jordan" told me that if I haven't heard anything by Monday to give them a call back. Why?? So I can be told that now it will be ANOTHER 3-5 business days until I hear from someone??? I have never heard of such a thing before and this will be the very last Philips product that I ever purchase.

UPDATE SEPTEMBER 29/2012:
Long story short, we FINALLY got the TV almost 2 months later and on the packing slip it says it is a "renewed" TV. When I asked head office if this means "refurbished" they said yes. Plus our 1 year warranty doesn't start again with this replacement TV, it is from the original purchase date of the shitty one. So not only did we pay top dollar for a brand new TV only to get shafted with a used one but they are now gypping us out on our warranty as we didn't have a TV for almost 2 months!!!  Also, my husband thought he would keep the new remote that came with the new TV and that too was also defective so luckily the courier hadn't shipped the defective TV back so he had to run out the next morning and get our original remote back and give the defective one back! &#^$)#&*(  That is twice now we have had defective merchandise from Philips!! I think that says something about their product.

I am livid and want to spread the word about Philips so please reconsider if you are looking at one and think the price is good because it's just not worth it. I wish we would have gone to a Samsung or Sony, anything but Philips!!!!

A Year in the Life of an Art Journal

The new prompt is up over at the A Year in the Life of an Art Journal and here it is:

THE PROMPT: Bird is the word
THE STUFF: yarn, twigs, sticks, feathers, leaves, things you would find in a nest.

THE TECHNIQUE: Doodle/Construct yourself as a bird. You can draw (with or with out color) or paper piece a photo of yourself and some bird parts. How would you look as a bird?

and here is my take on the challenge
I will admit I had a lot of trouble with this prompt and couldn't figure out what to do so the only thing I did that was bird related was give myself wings and also used a little bird embellishment as well as a piece of patterned paper that had a bird on it! Have fun with this prompt and I would love to see what you make!
