A Year in the Life of an Art Journal

Hey everyone,  here is the new prompt over at the A Year in the Life of an Art Journal:

PROMPT: Fall and Change
SHOOTERS: Shoot your mug in the leaves on the ground, or with bare branches in the background.
BOOKERS: Instead of taking the "normal" slant that we prompt blogs like to take around Thanks Giving, I'd like to twist things a bit, and create a page based on the tradition of Winter Solstice. Winter Solstice is a time of change (much like Fall) traditionally, a person might write down some things they would like to let go of or forget in the coming year, and then burn those things in a fire on the night of the 21st as they celebrate the coming of longer days in the new year. I would like you to write a few of those things down, roll them up, and place them on a page (like so: and create over the top of them.

Now I've never written down things on paper and then rolled them up and glued them onto my journal so this was a first for me but I enjoyed it! I wrote down things that I would like to let go of or change and used the title "Don't worry" as well as a ton of paint and some ever fabulous  Viva Las VegaStamps! to make this art journal spread:
I love the bright colors on this and the reminder to myself, which I always seem to have trouble heeding, to not worry!

7 Dots Studio and Viva Las VegaStamps!

I am in love with the gorgeous paper collections from 7 Dots Studio!! We were lucky enough to have been given some of their fabulous goodies to play with and I used papers and die cuts from both the Messy head collection and the Love is in the air collection as well as the fabulous Wanderlust stamp

and the Don't follow your dreams stamp

to make this layout about my boys

I hope you enjoyed seeing how I used the 7 Dots Studio collections along with the Viva Las VegaStamps! stamps. Until next time,

Last Guest Designer Gauche Alchemy project!

Hey everyone, I have had a blast this month playing with Gauche Alchemy's fabulous Dylusions TechniKit!!  It was fun letting my inner alchemist out and I have a fun tutorial for you on a different way to use your stencils using Golden Light Molding Paste!
First off here is my 2 page art journal spread. Can you see all of the texture in the background?
Now I will show you how I made this.  First off I placed the ever fabulous Rhonda Palazzari Designs template from the kit onto my journal pages and then I took my little trowel and scooped out some molding paste and spread it onto the stencil in different areas. Don't worry about it being too thick or too thin because it's all about the texture baby!!
Now you will see that some of my molding paste has blue on it from me being lazy and not washing off the stencil the last time I used it. No worries, like I said before, sometimes these mistakes turn out to our advantage.  Here is some molding paste detail goodness

Doesn't it look so light and fluffy??
Once you have spread out your molding paste you need to let it dry. I went and had lunch and then came back to play! haha The next thing I did was to glue some pieces of sheet music in various places as well as some pieces of patterned paper. After that I got out my paints and got messy!!
I kept adding washi tapes and more paint to build up my background
and I also used the Um Wow Studio Hands Stencil. I placed it onto some sheet music and traced the outline and then cut it out and glued it onto my journal page.
and here is a close up after it was painted
I love the textures of the molding paste, paint and punchinella
and here are a few more detail shots

I don't know if you noticed but all 3 of my journal projects are very different. I just wanted to show you that there are so many styles and that there is no right or wrong. I have fun in my journal and love that all of my pages are so varied, so different.  Journalling is a place where you can be free to try out new techniques and just get messy!  I hope you enjoyed seeing all of my Gauche Alchemy projects because I had a blast making them!

2nd Gauche Alchemy Guest Designer Project!!

Totally love guesting with these guys as I have always considered myself to be a secret alchemist. Kind of like a super hero where no one knows you wear the cape, yeah, like that. I'm totally loving all of the inspiration and art journal projects this month at Gauche Alchemy where I'm their November Guest Designer for art journal month!!  Make sure you check out my first post and see the gorgeous Dylusions TechniKit!!

Here is my 2nd art journal project
One of the things that I love to do when I art journal is use photographs. I know not everyone does because everyone has their own ideas or preferences when it comes to art journaling. Some people sketch in their journals (I envy those that can draw well!!), some people paint mini masterpieces (again, envy!), some people collage, etc.. but I really love to use photos. I don't do it all of the time but I like looking back in my journal and seeing where I was at different times in my life as well as my family.
For this 2 page journal spread I gathered up some photos of myself and decided to do a "me" page.  First I went through my stash and picked out a variety of patterned papers as well as part of a magazine page that was in the kit that I wanted to use as my background and glued them onto the journal pages.
Then I used the fabulous Rhonda Palazzari Designs template from the kit as well as the Vibrant Turquoise Dylusions ink spray and just sprayed portions of the journal spread as well as added some washi tape to the bottom.
Once that dried I gathered up the pictures and just set them in place on the journal spread without glueing them down, because the more I add things sometimes I end up changing the placement! I added some chipboard, stickers, stamping, a journal card and even some acetate wings to this piece!
I love seeing how a journal page starts and how it ends up so I thought I would share this with you. One tip I have is when I have pictures or patterned papers that I want to overlap from one page to the next, I cut them in half and then glue them close together so that the journal can open and close without any problems.  I hope you enjoyed my project and that you are inspired to add a photo/photos to your next journal page! Make sure you stop back on November 26th to see my last guest design project!

Viva Las VegaStamps! DT Tryout....again!

Yes, they can't get rid of me that easy because I'm throwing my hat back into the ring again and hoping for a 3rd term with these fabulous guys!! I have to post 3 of my fave projects here and looking back on my Viva Las VegaStamps projects it wasn't hard to pick out 3 of my faves right away and even add a 4th (I think I did this last time too! haha)

My first favorite was the project I did using the Scorpal and Viva Las VegaStamps, it was a tri-fold ATC and I loved this project:

My 2nd fave project was the Quotes wooden mini album

and for my 3rd and 4th faves, because I was torn so they are tied, was my layout
 and art journal page
I love Viva Las VegaStamps and being on the DT for my last 2 terms has been wonderful!! Wish me luck for a 3rd term everyone and have a great day!!

Get happy!

Hi there, I know I've been a horrible blogger! I have been battling tendonitis in my hand due to repetitive strain from work so I'm not on the computer as much as I used to be. I'm hoping this will heal and I will be back to my normal self because it affects so much of my daily life. Thank God for my ipad so that I can still go online and do Pinterest and check on things periodically! But enough of my whining, here is the new prompt over at the A Year in the Life of an Art Journal:

PROMPT: It's MY life, and I want it NOW! What do you want, right now, in life?
SHOOTERS: Shoot your mug in a setting that symbolizes what you want.
BOOKERS: It's time to get rid of those gazillion rub ons we all have. Some so old they don't even rub on even more...or is that just me?? Let's see how you use them and have fun with them!

It felt soooo good to get rid of a bunch of rub ons!!! I don't know about you but when I first started scrapping I hoarded as much stuff as I could, for some bizarre reason. The after effect of this is that I have too much stuff that I never use. I have even had rub ons that were so old that they didn't even rub on anymore, and that just pisses me off, especially when you are mid-rub and only half the word or image goes on!! So, this was fun to use up a bunch of them and I'm going to start doing this more because what am I waiting for??? Here's my journal spread
Don't be afraid to use up those rub ons!!

Wedded bliss!

Hi there, Glenda here with some ATC's using the fabulous Viva Las VegaStamps! stamps! For some reason when I make ATC's I have alot of different ideas come to me when I'm thinking about a particular subject. When I saw the Bride stamp I got the idea to make a series of humerous ATC's about wedded bliss and here you have them:

 (how true right??)

 (oh yay!!)

(this one is my fave!) haha

I got a kick out of making these and hope you enjoyed them! You can stop by the Viva Las VegaStamps blog to see links to all the stamps I used as well as my blog post!

Word up!

I have been wanting to play along for so long now with the One little word blog and I finally did this past weekend!! The word is "color" so I did an art journal page on the word
That's one thing I love about challenge blogs, especially the One Little Word, is that you are challenged to create something that you might not have done otherwise. I finally used some of the die cuts I had about color as well as the little artist stickers from my embarrassingly large stash! haha I can't wait to see the new word!!

I'm a Guest Alchemist!!!!!!!!!

Yes, that's right. I'm letting my inner alchemist fly and am super honored to be guesting this month at Gauche Alchemy!! woohoo!!! November is art journal month so when I was asked to be the guest designer I didn't hesitate!! The new Dylusions TechniKit  from Gauche Alchemy is soooo gorgeous!! I can't tell you how much I love that Dylusions art journal. Sigh. Here is the kit in all it's glory:
How gorgeous is this right??? Man I had fun with this and here is my art journal page
I opened up the first page of my Dylusions art journal and stared at the 1st blank page - the possibilities were endless!!  If you are new to art journaling, don't be afraid. There are no rules. There is no wrong or right.  It's whatever you feel like doing, that's what makes it so fun!! For my 1st page I used the sheet music from the kit to be my background. I just glued it onto the art journal page and then I used the fabulous Rhonda Palazzari Designs template from the kit as well as the Vibrant Turquoise Dylusions ink spray to add another layer of interest. I love using stencils with inks on top of sheet music and other patterned papers because you can see bits of the sheet music peeking through.
I also love using paint and getting messy. I painted over a section of the sheet music and stenciled area so that I could place my tag on it and while I was glueing my tag down my hand accidentally landed in the fresh paint and got on the tag. I decided to leave it on because it added more texture and interest! Sometimes a mistake can work in your favour! haha
I love using punchinella in a couple different ways. One of course is to staple it right onto my page.
You don't have to worry about the staples showing through on the other side because when I do this I just make sure to glue some patterned paper on the other side to cover up the staple. You could also let the staple show through on the other side and incorporate it into your new journal page. The possibilities are again endless!!
The other way I love using punchinella is to put paint on a foam dabber and then dab it onto the punchinella, which leaves cool painty circles on your journal page.
I am a huge fan of quotes and love doing journal pages about them and that was the inspiration behind this page. The little yellow bird on my journal page was in an old National Geographic magazine and I just cut him out and glued him onto my page. There was something about the color yellow that reminded me of happiness and then I was inspired to find a quote about happiness.
When I journal I love using all kinds of items from my stash such as stickers, rhinestones, rub ons, chipboard, die cuts, inks, stamps, anything that I think will look neat on my page.
I hope you enjoyed my art journal page and see you on the 20th for my next Gauche Alchemy project!
